As you can see, a piece of the inner plastic part of the mesh screen filter has broken off. There is no other damage of any kind to any other part of the filter. Can this simply be cleaned and reused, minus the broken off piece, or does it really need to be replaced?
They are still available and not much - I would replace this mesh filter as the plastic has gone brittle; it will only distintergrate further and if the outer bit goes it's in the case :-(
Replacement is the best option, In the damaged condition, the oil suction height in the oil pan is higher by the amount of the broken out part
