1198 Is It Possible To Fit Traction Control To The 1198?

  1. switched the traction control off on my 1198s - it's not needed unless you're ham fisted.

  2. @Jack Aubrey I did indeed retrofit TC to my 1198. Theres a thread on here somewhere that i posted doing it. You'll need to source the module that fits under the rear seat, a rh front disc with the buttons and the sensor. ChrisW on here kindly flashed my ECU to enable the TC and the QS (I also retrofitted this too). It is a relatively straightforward task to do.

However, both are next to useless. The TC is dreadful and it remained off. The QS is fine as long as you budget for a new gearbox thereafter. The annoying thing about the TC is that it defaults to setting 8, which will feel like your bike is broken. Its really rough.

I dont need TC as much as some as i tend to be progressive with throttle. Mainly due to cowardice. I dont whack it open, I 'feel' it open. I still do this on 1299 which has TC that works and even on track days, I rarely see the TC light. But its set at 3 and Im an amatuer, so its prob more to do with that.

  3. Depending on how handy you are with the spanner’s, people have fit the 1299 (base) electronics to their 1198. You get a better dash, gear indicator, cornering ABS, proper DTC, DLC and all the rest of the bollocks. Probably not worth the hassle of using the quick shifter / blipper option unless you upgraded the gear box, (fragile). It is quite involved but it’d be like a new bike all over again. :p.
About £1K ish if you find them 2nd hand.

  5. Guys thanks so much for taking the time to reply and offer guidance and opinions. It's been really interesting. Unfortunately, having developed cancer and then been operated on and then having the fucking thing come back i am going to have to sell the Bike. Not being fatalistic, i just can't fit comfortably on the bike for more than 15 minutes - and not even that long if i'm being honest with myself. so look out as it will be listed on the forum first before going on ebay/facebook etc. Thanks again guys, great community on here.
