950 Will I Miss The Power??

  1. I am coming back to Ducati after a three year absence and I’m sorely tempted to go back to where I left off with a 1260 S but I rarely reach three figures these days I’m quite interested in the thought of a lighter bike so the 950 is tempting me but Will I miss the power??
    Anyone else made this change???

  2. On today's uk roads, no.
    I've gone from a 950s to a 1200s.
    No noticible difference in power low down.
    Might be different 2 up and loaded with luggage mind.
    I've done a few roll ons with my 950 and my mates 1260. He only started pulling away over 90mph ( we were on the autobahn)
    If you do get a 950, get the S model, as you get quickshifter and cruise and electronic suspension.
    The 950 is a bit taller than a 1200/1260 too.
    And add a comfort seat, makes a huge difference.
    950 sounds like a sewing machine also, but nice induction noise when you wind it on.
    Personally, I would go 1200 or 1260 again, just as I much prefer the single swing arm, and 17" front wheel.

  3. Personally I'd not notice such a small difference in weigh, my partner has a new v2 and I have the 1200dvt and they feel just about the same weight too me.

  4. The 950 is not that much lighter. Most importantly, what kind of riding do you do?
    You got to share that for us to give you an informed opinion.

  5. I had a V2S for a day last year and I didn't really notice much difference between it and my 1200S GT in terms of weight and power.

    It would mainly be used for long solo riding tours with panniers, top box and camping gear.
    I’m an advanced rider with plenty of experience but am 60 now and although physically fit, bikes feel like they’re getting heavier!

  8. I think you’ll find the pre DVT 1200S multi is lighter than today’s 950.

  11. If you weren't using the power on the 1260 you won't miss it on the 950.

  12. I agree, as I've gotten older, I also find lightweight is the most important thing. For the power thing, whilst it is addictive, I've found tweaking the final drive sprockets is a good way to keep the "rush", and do you really need that last 10mph up top? :upyeah:

  13. I’ve gone from the Multistrada V4S to the Diavel V4 because it’s more manageable when trying to move in restricted places or having to move it slowly.

    Though they’re both pretty much the same weight wise, the Diavel is easier to move around as the CoG is lower and is therefore more manageable in those situations.

    And from a performance and handling point of view it’s equally as good if not better for me as it instills confidence.

  16. Have a look at the Desert X too. Makes a great touring bike and is more agile than the Multistrada in either 950 or 1200. You really will not notice the 21 inch front wheel at all.

  18. That’s the thing though, I’ll always look at a V2/950 and think has that guy borrowed his Mrs bike.

  20. Yes indeed. It's not just you. The Multi's have gained weight and size over the years. My MTS1260 Pikes Peak dwarf's my Monster 1200R.
    For that very reason, I can't see myself on a Multistrada V4.
