Yesterday along with a couple of friends we completed the Isle of Wight anti-clockwise ride. It’s fairly tough, but what a wonderful day, up at 6, caught the 0900 Lymington to Yarmouth ferry. Lunch at Sandown beach, caught the 1805 ferry home. 64.19 miles, 4,610 ft elevation. The weather was perfect for the ride. I’d definitely do it again, possibly with my daughter and her boyfriend. It was the first time being 60 saved me some money as Wightlink give a reduced fare for over 60’s. View attachment 326563
Well done! How was Military Rd? I was invited by some friends to do this earlier this year, unfortunately I just couldn't go on the day they'd arranged. Which was a real shame as they had a stunning and windless day. Hopefully next summer.
The first bit a Freshwater was short and steep, after a while we got off onto a side road. It’s a great day out.
on an impulse decided to venture out dosed up and on Ebike. Ripley bonfire already for tonight. New road to "Wisley town" finished but cordoned off. I was very tempted.. but showing my age probably. Will know in the next few days if this was a mistake.
In a moment of weakness I agreed to ride https://www.etapelochness.com/ next April. The ride itself doesn’t present any concerns, probably the drive there and back is bigger issue and the of course the weather.
Nice. A closed road event too, as for the weather hopefully it’ll be nice and dry for at least some of it. Hopefully there’ll be no ‘interference’’ from an irate local as happened to the etape Caledonian a number of years ago. I’d hope to break that journey up into a 2 day drive by overnighting in Cumbria or a little farther North. I’ve cycled events that require long drives and always the most enjoyable with a rest day before. Enjoy.
A friend of mine has done this the last couple of years and is booked in next year as well. They stay up there a couple of nights i think
Two of my gym buddies completed a marathon around there a few weeks ago, both said it was an amazing location. They were lucky with the weather. Here's an idea, do the Land's End to John o'Groats ride, stop off and do this on the way...
