916 Lower Exhaust Bracket To Engine Case Bolt

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by jcw, Oct 21, 2024.

  1. The ‘special’ torx head bolt that secures the lower exhaust bracket (with the light blue silent mount rubbers etc) to the engine case has rounded off and I’m trying to work out how to remove it.

Before I do any damage, can anyone confirm if on a 916 this bolt is screwed directly into a tapped hole in the crankcase, or (like the 999 I had) is there a removable tapered bush arrangement?

The parts diagram for the 999 shows the tapered bush approach (appreciating the bracket is used for the fairing bracket not the exhaust bracket but it’s the same hole) but the 916 doesn’t show this, plus the bolt is clearly different hence I’m guessing it’s just a tapped hole?

  2. Pretty sure it's not a threaded hole.

    *based on historical memory.

  3. Thanks Ricky - I’ve found some photos on an eBay listing of the same engine (‘94 916 Strada) and it’s not completely clear either way, to my eye at least, by comparison to the threaded holes for the rear brake master cylinder bolts.

  4. That looks threaded to me.
My memory must be very hazy!
