Does anyone happen to have a primary gear puller for our Ducati engines. I want it for a 900 SS engine but I know it’s the same for a huge array of Duc engines. If you have one that you’re prepared to sell please drop me a PM. Thanks.

I was too right to buy the special one. Tried my existing 2 leg puller and had no luck. I'm the end I bought a beefier 2 leg puller. Sealey Ak46150 Twin Leg Puller Bar Type 150 X 150Mm https://amzn.eu/d/bPBz6h3 This one just fits and worked a treat. Just leave the loosened nut on the shaft as they go with a big bang.
Also a good technique is to add tension with the puller and then a firm whack with a plastic mallet to get it to go.
I will try that puller you suggest I have tried my 3 jaw on it with the usual techniques, boiling water, sharp tap etc but it’s obviously not up to the job, I broke my trusty old 2 jaw on another job a while ago, that used to get these primary gears off. Cheers.
Hi Paul I’ve got a primary gear puller if you want to borrow one, you’ll have to swim over to Blackpool to get it though, send me a message if you want to borrow it I got it from gb motor cycle products on flea bay and it worked a treat on 900ss after other pullers either failed or were coming close to seriously damaged either the engine or myself. It’s currently resting in the garage awaiting a challenge Fergus
I've done 3 or 4 now with an old 2 leg puller I inherited from my father. Put some tension on with the puller and add a little heat carefully to the gear. Add a little more tension then give the end of the puller bolt a sharp tap with a hammer. The OP obviously doesn't need the above advise, but if anyone who's not done one before is reading this and thinking of having a go, the most important thing to take away from this thread is: It's good practice anyway when doing something like this, but the amount of force needed to get these things off really can make them fly off.
