Best Car For £15,000 ? (not Family Saloons)

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Mattie821, Nov 8, 2024.

  1. Dude at work - who likes cars - was gong through options of what to buy on a budget of £15 grand.

We are not looking at practical new cars here, but rather cars, proper cars, but a budget of £15,000.

I suggested a Lotus and a Golf GTI, or Seat Leon.

Any suggestions and I will pass them on (once upon a time he had a 911 and a Boxter)

    Thanks

  2. Seat Leon - 1.5 TSI - £11,600

I would have that and some change left over ...

  3. a lot of stuff that i like in that budget would need a similar budget for essential and preventative maintenance over 3-5 years ie late 90s / early 00s modern classic german stuff

does your mate want a one and done car or something that he doesnt mind chucking money at?

  4. At the moment he has a large mortgage and is doing up the house. He has an old Rav 4 and some kind of hybrid Mitsubishi estate. These are "domestic appliance" kind of cars.

I think he wants something special, but not anything that will cost more money after purchasing it, as funds are being spent on the house - is my understanding. He had an Audi TT as well sometime ago.

  5. you will get a perfect 20v turbo fiat coupe for well under 15k

  9. At that money he will need to look hard and carefully, but a Lotus Elise should fit the bill?

I imagine he will want some driving thrills and some beauty which also sets the car up to be noticed as something not at all run of the mill. But that's because I would definitely want that in a toy car. No high performance family car with the rear doors deleted will ever be one of those...

  13. Honda Civic Type R FK2, My son has one, Ive driven it loads and love it

  14. We have a Mk1 Lotus Elise S111 in the family (~15 years), when I was a bit younger I was very much in love with it, but over time I now see it as so one-dimensional as almost un-usable except for balls out fun. Shit roads shaking you around on harsh suspension..utterly exhausting. Grumble, grumble, where's me pipe and slippers...bah humbug.

Ps: It also requires ear plugs to use.

  16. Try autotrader for a few ideas. £15k max, a few filters and have a look.... Usual hot hatches, M235/M240's, Caymans, XKR's, even a couple of Bentleys and 911's. Depends on what it'll be used for and what he wants from it.

  17. Cayman...yes, there's a good car. Obviously need a super looked after one.

  18. 330/335 diesel M sport coupe. Loadsa torque, cool interior.

  19. £15k will buy a decent 996 model 911, perhaps even an early 997.

    What about an E46 M3?

Or, he can get an R53 Mini Cooper S, preferably tuned to JCW spec, for about £2.5k, leaving him £12.5k to spend on coke and whores, or, alternatively, petrol, as they’re pretty thirsty!
