Always good to have alternatives, good to see more options coming, but to me it seems a bit more expensive, and a bit more complicated than the ELM327+MelcoDiag combination...on the other hand you don't need a laptop here.
Looks useful. Does it do activations ; as in activating things like the addition of OEM spotlights and other accessories as well as giving specific diagnostic information rather than just an error code? If so it sounds like a worthy competitor to the OBDStar at a bargain price. Plus it's not limited to one marque by the sounds of things.

Presume it can be used without, and beyond, renewal, just without new features and marques/models? Much liked the OBDStar updates. "$99.99 per year for continued access." could be taken in a number of ways. If you're locked out of using the device without renewal then it's a NO from me. Hypothetical as I already have an OBDStar. That makes it a touch less useful than the OBDStar. Trip to dealers and fee for activations. Only need to do once though.
That would explain its initial cheap price, sold as a loss leader to get you to keep renewing the licence. A bit like home printers and their ink supplies.
Yes, and also implies that either it's a simple date-on-the-device licence check or an interweb connection is required at the point of use.
As the software is actually running on a mobile and the device is the OBD reader/interface, I presume it’s the latter.

All the work is done by the software on your phone (Ducati, Harley, whatever) that you download when you register, the dongle is just that. Also the functions vary between bike manufacturers and I couldn't see anything that specifies these. If you're going to stick with Ducati for more than a couple of years you're better off with an iScan, which does more anyway. obdstar.co.uk are knocking them out at £271 at the moment...
