Foot Pegs Dull

Discussion in 'Detailing and cleaning' started by roadkill, Nov 7, 2024.

  1. Tried to spruce these up with Scottish write and oil, also tried metal Polish. But as yiu can see, they still look pretty dull and have like stains in the grains.

What products and methods do you guys recommend?

  2. @El Toro Do you think it possible that we could reinstate the shortened S word now that people seem to be behaving themselves more these days? Minor request obviously but annoying (to me) when you go to use it correctly as above or when talking about a wee dram etc. It could always be reinstated if abused. @finm What do you think?

    PS. Can’t help with footpegs!

  5. I’ve no idea what they are on about above but I’d imagine those foot peg parts are coated/ anodised. Soda blasting would bring them up nice but then you would need to protect them in some way to stop corrosion coming back.

  6. I vapour blasted mine years ago. Stayed nice and clean after that.

  7. The word Sc0tch isn’t allowed and will automatically convert to Scottish.

So Scottish-bright will type but won’t appear unless you type it thus Sc0tch-bright.

  8. Oh ok, thanks I didn’t realise that was a naughty word or considered a slur. I have a friend from Glasgow and he has never mentioned that being offensive.

  9. Yep, anodised. I tried Bilt Hamber alloy wheel cleaner on mine and they came up like new. Not sure after using Scottish Brite you’ll ever get a good enough result because the surface will probably be scratched. If so, the only way to mint them properly would be to get them re anodised which is always very hit or miss.

  10. As a slightly Off-Piste answer... The standard footpegs are a deathtrap... they are the MOST slippery material known to man, and that "weathering" is probably doing you a favour in providing something your boot can grip. Moving to proper rearsets -- first change that should be made on any 916/999/1098 bike IMO. Put the originals into a box and pop them away safe where no-one can reach them
