  3. I have just under 500 miles to go for my 2024 target, I’m hoping it’s still achievable. Yesterday’s ride on Sunday 11th included a Christmas style sandwich just before the big climb out of Mere.

  4. For a while I’ve been considering and looking into getting a professional bike fit. I narrowed it down to two potential options, both about an hour’s drive away. The one is in a bike shop, the other a physiotherapist who has subsequently trained as a bike fit specialist, I chose the latter.

On my part there has been a bit of a leap of faith as I had to pay upfront to someone who I was unable to get a first hand review of. Today was the day, it lasted over three hours….

    Repositioning of pedals and cleats
    New saddle, also repositioned
New shorter reach with raised handlebar stem
    Repositioned handlebars and hoods

I didn’t need new shoes or a bike.

The full bike fit was £192, the stem & saddle £305, new pedals yet to be ordered.

The big test will come on Friday when I get chance to ride a reasonable distance.

  8. Almost every bike fit I hear of or witness, the rider will be prescribed a shorter stem, being too stretched out can lead to all kinds of neck and upper back probs.
Unless yr a very bendy racing snake, slamming is a bit daft IMO.
The other lesson I've learned over the last few years is you can pay for the best bike fit available, but if yr own body position/muscle memory is off then it's a waste of money. I've had to work hard at this myself, along with thoracic flexibility.
Did the fitter suggest the new saddle?

  9. I tried four saddles, they were all more comfortable than mine, different shape and position. Mine had 8,600 miles on it and was splitting at the seam near the front. He moved mine before I started trying different saddles.

My flexibility and range of movement are good, but I have been suffering with stiff neck and sore butt when cycling. I do Yoga and HIIT in addition to cycling.

  10. Shorter stem should help with the neck.
Sounds like a very thorough fit.

  11. Hmmm I have always wondered if a bike fit translates over to a motorcycle :) I know bikes are more configurable but still wonder if the basics help with motorcycle ergonomics...I personally use the trial and error method via pain location, I have 6+1 bikes so its all a compromise meh no pain no gain they say :)
I will say the scenery is a lot nicer where you lot ride ;)

  12. I emailed SQ Lab who put me in touch with the U.K. agent who put me in touch with a couple of stockists who both happen to be bike fit studios. Anyway they are ordered and hopefully I will receive them tomorrow.

  15. + 15 mm pedals arrived with minutes to spare this morning so put them straight on and went for a 39 mile ride.

It’s still very early days but I was watching my mate lift his butt off the saddle for a rest after 20 miles, I was good for the whole ride.
