Modern Fuels Compatibility With 748/916/998 Fuel System?

  1. As a new member, just though I would ask the 'Cognoscenti' about any issues found with modern fuels (e.g. cracked fuel lines/perished seals etc)? I ask, as I understand that when E10 was brought in with the higher ethanol content, many classic cars had to have new fuel proof lines and hoses/seals fitted. I recognise that most will probably use E5 fuels, but I think I recall that the Government were only keeping E5 for 5 years from when E10 was introduced and then carry out a review (I guess hoping people would move to those expensive new fangled EV's!

Look forward to your views, as I am looking for a late model 748 S as my new 'project' and want to know what the impact may be...

  2. I believe that 2000 was the cut off date for vehicles for Ethanol compatibility.. however I've used E10 in my 1997 900ss for many years without issues.

  3. The internal fuel hoses are known to perrish. They did that before ethanol and now it's definitely going to happen over time. They, together with the filter, need doing every 5 or so years anyway. Just replace with ethanol proof, submersible hose. The rest, including the external fuel hoses, is fine.

  5. I avoid E10 at all costs and only run quality E5 fuel (from Shell & BP) in my 916.
Performance is an issue too, even our boring car is down on power if its fed E10.

  6. Thanks guys, It was as I thought and no 'additives' would help I suggest! In terms of power, I will raise another thread about Parallel imports soon - as there is a nice looking 748S in red for sale currently on the usual auction sites and other advertising sites... It is an option I would consider if I can get some confidence in the information I receive!
