I'm already booked for this. The same event last year with Charlie Boorman was good, and it's a great way to support Movember. Just found myself in the image from last year, but I'm not letting on which balding head I am. The food was great by the way. See you there.
Back in the day Damon had a go on my 350YPVS, we were both riders for West One couriers at the time. A few of us used to meet at the One Tun in Googe Street after work and I popped in for a drink on a day I wasn't working on my Power Valve. I worked on the City Circuit on an RS250, Damon rode a 550 Katana on the West End circuit. I didn't know him as the son of Graham Hill and, obviously, no idea of his onward trajectory. He kept himself very much to himself, a modest guy. Didn't know him other than a fellow courier and a nice bloke.
If it's of any interest the pub is still going, tends to be our meeting point before any games at Wembley.
i just missed Damon by a year or two at the place i was working and so never met him, but everyone there confirmed your last comments.
On show was Damon's 916, which was gifted to him by Barry Sheene who made a phone call to Ducati and got them to send him one. Damon claimed he'd asked several times what Barry wanted in return and was never given a straight answer. It's got 500miles on the clock and will be for sale soon.
I'm not sure he walked away. The current world champion just told DH that he doesn't know what he's talking about so how can he hold a job talking about F1. TBH I think there is a changing of the guard, modern drivers are brought up on sims and DH doesn't seem to understand modern driving.
DH has been quite a vociferous critic of MV. I don’t think DH or Ted Kravitz have quite got over Abu Dhabi. Or perhaps he doesn’t love MV’s combative style. But I do I’ve always liked a baddie…
I don't actually watch it these days but for me if your a speed merchant from day one it'll always stay with you until the day you die.
Tv pundits are fine for the entertainment side of things but they only copy / repeat what the racers say.
