1200 Exhaust Options

  1. You'd be better off removing the exhaust valve rather than shelling out for a mid section with no custom fuelling map/open end can (in my opinion)

  2. Removing the CAT, which provides the vast majority of the silencing, whilst retaining the original end can (which is effectively straight though) will make the bike very loud. I accept that this is subjective but on long rides it will be tiresome. The majority of other road users, the general public (especially your neighbours) and MOT testers will see it as unacceptable. There's fruity and then there's obnoxious, this would fall into the latter category.

  3. You can't go far wrong at that price, just remember you'll need some kind of long tail pipe to try and quieten it down, it'll be unbearably loud with a standard tail pipe or any short pipe. Even with the long Termignoni can it's borderline obnoxious!

  4. Ha ha this is what I’m worried about! I was thinking about pairing it with a termi. Another option is an arrow decat pipe with the arrow end can.

removing the exhaust valve is also something I’m looking at. Objective really is to get it looking good and sounding good without being anti social.

  5. I dare say you can control the volume somewhat with baffles, you'd have to experiment. You can obviously get baffles for the tail pipe but, you can get internal baffles to go in the end of the de-cat too.
My Termi with a baffle in is just about OK, it's still loud and I wear earplugs, without the baffle it's obnoxious.
The baffle also has an effect on power, with the baffle in I have great low to mid range power/torque, with the baffle out I lose a bit of low down grunt but, get a lot more top end, the difference is very noticeable.

  6. I have a mivv decat with suono end can, love the sound and ran bike the without a remap for 6 years without any problems and never failed an MOT. I did get it mapped 2 years ago but that was just for person preference. Also, toured all over Europe with it for 8 years and never ONCE have I had an issue even when Ive been stopped for something else :p

  7. I just though I should have called this thread "Exhaust Options" so I've just done the same :)

I've had a look at the mivv decat and end can options which isn't one I'd come across before. I've also found the Arrow option with decat, and then it does still appear possible to get a Termi end can and use a decat pipe by someone else to go with it. My priorities basically are it must sound good without being antisocial, and look good.

  8. This. I live in a national park, about 2 miles from a major biking road. Much as I appreciate the sound of a fruity v-twin, the constant noise at weekends from the main road really hacks people off. So I’ve kept the cat on both my touring Ducatis, leaving just the slight embarrassment of the 749R with WSS Termi… (in my defence, m’lud, I bought it like that)
