Been up to ymthe Huggys Speedshop open day with autojumble at Mallory Park this morning, nice morning out, some nice bikes there
Ran the 1098 up to ~105degC having replaced water pump seal and coolant. All seemed fine. It wouldn’t get up to 110 as the fans kicked in and cooled it down. Coolant level still same so not getting into engine! Hopefully done.
Warm and dry for a bit, so washed the bike ready for a deep clean before putting it away for the winter...
Was meant to be riding today, but with recent events that wasn’t going to happen. So gave it a clean with a waterless cleaner, put a coat of wax on and put the cover on, as we’re tied up until the new year now.
Renewed the insurance on the Pani and Multistrada today. Unfortunately Bemoto was nearly twice what Bikesure wanted, so of course I went with Bikesure. Both bikes fully laid up £349! Both bikes fully insured for the road £449. No brainier. Insurance! It’s getting more and more outrageously priced. I wondered what people are paying on new V4’s, given that both these bikes are V twins.
Yup, mine went from £595 with Carole Nash to £2,274 . No circumstances had changed. Got it with BeMoto for £717 . Dreading next year
Got a set of 765 headers off a 2022 bike after months of searching. With these I can eventually swap out the welded one piece exhaust on my 2023 model should it take my fancy. In preparation I cut off a siezed stud and nut and then gave them a good clean by hand. Don’t want a mirror finish.
Removed my 996 outer casings for painting and came across an unidentified small piece of plastic in the alternator casing. Turns out the alternator is coming apart and this was part of the supports that hold the windings. Reckon another few minutes running and it would have come apart....
Renewed insurance as bemoto for the first time in years are shite. bikesure 150 quid ish cheaper so just need to get the panigale out the garage for the first time in 5 weeks
Popped into the bike shed to swap the battery tender over to another bike and found a small pool of oil under the left fork leg of the MT09. Oh well, I can't see my having much time to pop out for a ride over the next couple of weeks anyways. It'll give me something to do over the Christmas break
Bought a spare pillion seat that will fit the V4 Pikes Peak off eBay. Plan is to fit 4 rivet nuts in the steel seat pan so I can attach a Kreiga US Drypack fitting kit for touring next year. On that note, met up with a group of friends this morning to kick off planning a tour of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides next July. Andy
If you haven’t been to the Hebrides before mate? I booked the ferry’s ahead and found some to be a good idea as full and even when I didn’t they were ok with just putting the bike in the corner. Did the whole of the outer Hebrides last year and would highly recommend it
Ferries and accommodation are the priority. Hoping to get our itinerary to fall into place (with a plan B) this coming week. It’s going to be a challenge sorting things out for a group of 4 singles and 1 couple and no summer sailing schedules released yet. Andy
