New Owner, What Can I Expect?

  1. Haha, thanks for the response! I view this model as absolutely gorgeous so I feel I led with my eyes over my other senses, certainly over any sense of financial responsibility....

I've lost a lot of weight in the past few years so no longer the typical HD physique and will probably get a race suit as jeans and a retro style jacket seems bit out of place on this beauty.

I'll get a paddock stand so I can remove the left fairing and replace the battery and then as soon as there's a decent break in the weather I'll take it for a spin (gingerly!). Who knows, if it becomes my number one machine I may even sell the HD Road Sofa but it's just soooooo comfortable!

I love the idea of a track day but with various bits of titanium in my spine I'd not risk a crash that could leave me paralysed. I'll definitely do some sort of advanced training to help build confidence in cornering etc. Castle Combe is a few minutes away from me and they host training sessions without the added pressure of trying to keep up with wannabe racers that may encourage me to overdo it.

I have a gen 1 swing arm on my bike (04 model year). Amy particular paddock stand I should look out for? Cheaper the better at this point.

It's going in for a service so I'll get them to give it a really good going over and get it to as perfect condition as possible including suspension settings and idle adjustment if necessary.

  3. Big welcome ! I had a 749 for 4yrs, loved it and always regret letting it go. They love to be pushed , reminded me of my little 2 strokes back in the day. Regular services and it should be fine !

  4. Be careful with Ducatis, I’m on my second Supersport and have just put a deposit on a 94 super light to go with it.
Love the look of the 749

  5. i would say join a club if you can, maybe a ducati club, there are loads.

me personally is 40 miles away from my nearest one, so it would never happen

i joined a club 4 or 5 years ago, mostly for a breakfast runs, but they do trips away

before that it was billy no mates

  6. Good morning, welcome to the forum

Word of advice, post pics, we like pics, just make sure at least one has a dustbin in it, to keep our resident bin expert happy @Ducbird :joy:

The 749/999 is a bit of a marmite bike, you either love it, or hate it, i personally prefer the Tamburini styled bikes on road trim, with the 749/999, you get used to seeing Johnny 5 staring at you from under the side panels :joy:

As @Vader stated, be careful, they tend to breed in your garage when the wife isn't looking, I started with a 916, I now have a 996 to go with it too :joy:

Enjoy your bike, and stay safe
