New Boots

  1. My old Sidi's have seen better days, bits falling off and literally wearing out, looked at repair but I think they may be too far gone.
Time for a new pair, I ride all year, warm and dry are essential, not wedded to any particular make.
I prefer the adventure style of boot, any good recommends?

  2. For the Adv style boot I've had a pair of Revit Discovery boots (waterproof when new - but not goretex) for a number of years and up until just recently they have been perfect. They have the BOA fastening system which is great (I love it !) until the cable snags, which mine did just recently ( I slipped it around it fittings a few inches and its working great again) and they have just developed a leak on the gearchange pad, perfectly dry for a number of years till then. Compared to the original leather Sidi Adventures I had (still have but they are very baggy, and velcro closure knackered) these are more robust in all areas (bar goretex on the sidi still works). I think Revit now do these with goretex lining which would have meant I could have had them warrantied (if I had goretex) . BOA systems are supposedly repairable if you CBA.
I persuaded the missus to get me the new Short Sidi Adv boots for Chrimbo , well I gave her a list to pick something & I was in when the Sportsbike shop box arrived so that was my Chrimbo surprise ruined, I was going to use these as well as the Revits but the leak may mean they get more use than originally intended. I may also look at a new pair of (goretex) REvits in the new year (subject to prices as they seem to have gone up by a good ton since I bought them). I've also had a pair of TCX short adv boots over the the recent years but had to bin them as the plastic fastening buckle straps just snapped on both boots so I couldn't tighten them up anymore.

  3. Just buy Daytonas, ugly boots but the most comfortable and long lasting ones you will ever buy. I held off buying them for years but then you get to a certain age they suddenly make sense!

  4. Yeah totally agree Daytonas all day long, I have two pairs, fantastic boots.
The police riders use them coz they are so comfortable and last, mine are 5 years old and look like new with a quick clean.

  5. I wore Daytonas for a long time, but much happier in Altbergs

  6. Alpine stars Toucan, rock solid, still
walkabout friendly-ish and warm and dry as you like (GTX).

  7. Another vote for Alpinestars Toucan. Also have the shorter version , Belize. Both are comfortable to walk around in once off the bike and have been waterproof.

  8. Alpinestars - RT8 Goretex Black Boot - AMA Warehouse

Just bought some of these, I was after something with protection and could walk around comfortably in when getting
    to my destination.
Bit clumsy with the gear changes first time out, but a lot better after a few rides, very
    happy so far.

  9. I have some of those too - not so good for adv as a bit soft around ankles but super super comfy - pre-order you’re next gear shift rubber (if your bike has one) as these will erase it.

  10. Have always worn Sealskinz socks whether or not the boots said they were waterproof. Even had to resort to polythene bags when the Sealskinz reached their limit.

  11. Thanks for the help, I will wait and see what pops up in the sales.

  12. Why are they so ugly though? Its the only thing stopping me from buying some. They make you look like some kind of paraplegic with one leg shorter than the other.
Is it some kind of USP/deliberate design or are "Daytona" just like KFC and their shit chips and simply sticking two fingers up to their customers persistent cries for change?

  13. It’s a function over form thing, I just couldn’t buy a pair based purely on their wellington boot looks.

  14. For me, it’s not a fashion parade. I want comfort and function over style and form. Plus, when you have Brobdignagian size feet like me, your choice doesn’t include trendy Italian winkle pickers :joy: Andy

  15. If I have to ride in seriously cold conditions I use a pair of Sorrell Snow Boots, they have an inner felt boot then leather and rubber outside, still with an amazing amout of feel.
    Not pretty but seriously effective
