2015 Diavel Carbon Final Drive Chain Vibration

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Breastfed, Dec 24, 2024.

  1. I've had an ongoing Vibration that keeps on destroying the number plate also the Fuses under the seat are also failing , Chain adjustment is as per the specs but the one thing that stands out is if I clean the chain and lube it with a chain wax its so much smoother afterwards as the chain seems to accumulate more road grime it starts to Vibrate more.
I've tried new DID OEM Chain sets new Front and Rear Sprockets same issue exists
Rear Wheel bearings replaced no changes
Replaced all the Rubber isolation dampers on the rear Hub
Even inspected the internals with a Bore-scope and found 5th and 6th Gear primary drive shaft gears where pitted the secondary shaft was perfect at the time I thought I had found the issue but after rebuilding the transmission with all OEM bearings including new Crank & Rod Bearings plus a set of Rings mineral Oil to Run it in on the dyno did this several times changing oil and filters, Magnet and suction screen is clean. Ive just done around 10,000KM and dropped the oil there's is no metal Fur on the Drain Plug.... However the Final drive still Vibrates.
    Cheers

  2. Probably nothing this simple, but it the rear wheel or tyre out of true, so not perfectly round, or does it need balancing.

  3. At the time I was anal with the tyre balancing even went to a car tyre balancing shop to see if this showed up anything, new Tires every 12k make no difference but sure as hell 2 hours of Chain Cleaning works magic to smooth out the Vibes even my wife comments LOL

  4. Just before the Transmission Rebuild a few years back I had an issue with the ECU Fuse under the seat when it got to around 7k RPM it would miss and fart and the ECU money light was ON .... Rolled into a drive way and Got a Pickup truck back to the WS ... checked all the Fuses and every one Tested Perfectly OK with a test Light and had continuity with a MM.
The ECU light would come on Randomly. later I discovered that the ECU Fuse had a Crack down one of the Legs and when I pressed on it with a MM probe it would distort and show continuity... after that I replaced all Fuses and no further issues.
I still have that fuse BTW it was a Red one !!!

  5. Have you checked the rear suspension bottom linkage. These are prone to failure and some owners have reported, in various forums, an increase in experienced vibrations around the rear of the bike as the bushing breaks down. In extreme cases there is a complete breakage of the linkage resulting in a collapse of the rear subframe onto the tyre. I’ve one such example with me at present to be fixed.

I’ve attached a copy of the service bulletin related to this.

I don’t know how you’re cleaning your chain but presume you are somehow lifting the rear wheel off the ground in order you can rotate it. Perhaps this is adjusting the position of the rear shock such the vibrations are minimised for a short while until the shock settles back into its worn position and the vibrations return.

This may not be your cause but it’s worth noting annual inspection of the rear shock linkage is now a service item.

  6. Thanks for the attached pdf, Yes I have replaced the Rear shock Ball Joint and installed 2 fat Viton ORings on each side to keep the sandy Crap out when I installed the Ohlins shock 6 years ago at a round 20k KM ...Engine was out for an inspection due to pitted teeth on 5th & 6th Primary shaft all the Needle bearings and shafts looks good no signs of indentation where the Needle Rubs a trench into the shaft I'll need to check up on the amount of play as described in the shock check
