1200 Looking For Advice On Wiring Accessories

  1. Hi all,

I'm in the process of wiring in two accessories to my Multistrada (1200s 2017) so they're powered only when the bike has power. Here's what I've got:

    Quadlock Wireless Charger
    • I have the USB cable from Quadlock, which can be connected directly to the battery.
    • It has an auto cut-off feature to prevent battery drain.
    Carpuride 502Pro Unit
    • Planning to hardwire this as well.
    Current Setup
The bike already has fog lights installed, which I believe are using one of the factory accessory cables.

    My Options:
    • Option 1: Connect both the Quadlock and Carpuride to the one spare factory accessory cable on the left side of the bike.
    • Option 2: Hardwire the Quadlock directly to the battery (since it has auto cut-off) and wire the Carpuride to the accessory cable.
    • Option 3: Something I've not thought of..
    What I need help with:
    • Which option is better?
    • Should I split the factory accessory cable into two?
      • If yes, do you know the power output of the factory cable to be sure it'll be sufficient for both devices?
      • What socket/plug is needed to connect to the factory accessory cable?
    • Are there any other cost-effective options I haven’t considered?
Normally I'd just connect directly to the battery but as there is already a cable at the front it seems like that would be a better option.

I’d appreciate your advice or see how you’ve tackled similar setups on your bikes. Thanks in advance!

  2. Just to add to the above, I also want to add a trickle charger so wondering if there is an existing socket/cable I can use or if I need to add a power cable to the battery. I've got the Oxford solar charger.

  3. I have the exact same set up and did have both wired direct to the battery but have since changed that and have it wired as in option 2. There should be a SAE plug already connected to the battery for a trickle charger (I have my heated gear plugged into it on mine)

  4. Yeah I was also debating this. There are a couple and I think the heal tech one is cheapest. If there is no "clean" solution with the existing accessory wire I may just go this route as it's also future proofing.

  5. Any ideas where about near the battery? Didn't notice one earlier but probably didn't look hard enough!

  6. Mine was on the nearside next to the battery with a red cap on it

  7. Just to close this off, I've ordered the Heal Tech Thunderbox as it'll save faffing with the OEM cables and also future proof other accessories I fit.

I also couldn't see any SAE connectors by the battery, just the main power unit with a cap on. I'll fit the Oxford connector to the battery for this to keep the plug free.
