Up early this morning to do some painting… First job was to dip the rear of the seat with some carbon film… My heart was pounding as it did this, it was the last piece of film I had and no chance of getting more any before the new year! the film had to be square in the water, and the tail piece square as it went in… I was relieved when I lifted it out of the water! this will be masked up to form a wide stripe. Next painted the tank with base then clear… this will be rubbed down before I put the decals on. I know a lot of people hate fake carbon… but I like it as its more durable and I do like the look. As an aside, I bought a paint mask off Temu a few months ago for £4. I was not entirely comfortable using it as it was so cheap. I bought another one off Amazon with lots of good reviews, for £30. It came yesterday… EXACTLY the same as the Temu one! [laugh] So it went back! When this was finished I treated myself to the rest of the day on the lathe and miller… I have looked around endlessly for some indicators, but they are either cheap plastic, or very expensive… so I made some LED ones. They are small, light, and very bright!
So the flashing led will be active when the ignition switch is off, nice. Sort of a pseudo alarm/breathing light. One thing I did when rewiring the Darmah was use an earth busbar to which all lights, indicator etc earths ran back to with then one lead from it to the battery. It saves having to scratch the frame to get a good connection. Still need one big fat engine/battery earth mind for the starter.
If you mean for the Darmah... nope, no kick start but it would bump if me heart lasted long enough when pushing it
Yes, I like the idea of the busbar... the fuse box I have used has one for the earth, and one feed in for the live which keeps things tidy. here it is on another build. When I looked at the size of the starter, and battery, I went a size up on my normal diameter cable!!
Nice - I toyed with the idea of such a neat fuse box but I wanted to keep it in it's original position which didn't allow enough space for one. I can only imagine the size of battery required to turn that motor over. For the Ducati I bought a 'Full Throttle' (AGM) battery from Tayna and it has proved to be powerful & trouble free over the 4 years I've had it. Maintaining 13v for the duration, even over winter, and only charged when I thought it may be lacking. That flexible braided sheathing looks good mind. I may well use that on the Raptor.
yes, I like the braided sheathing.. in areas of high likely abrasion I add a double layer... I have also found that those rubber loom clips Ducati use are better than cable ties... they do sone cheap on Temu, different lengths and colours... they are also great for when you build a loom on the bike
Definitely - they came as standard on the V-Raptor but when I did the Darmah I couldn't find a source so ended up using cable ties with heat shrink over them.
Temu... If you haven't used them I would set up an account... but dont blame me when you end up spending loads on things you didn't know you needed !!!
Here’s the finished seat and the tank with its modified filler where I have utilised the original Buell filler. The front will be secured with the Monster over the center catch. This is my last post before the big day, I have been assigned several jobs! so Merry Christmas to you all!
working my way through the wiring... Due to LED indicators and lights there are no relays on this build so it's quite simple...I am using a very bright LED for the stand down warning, switched by an angle switch... it remains to be seen if it tolerates the vibration!

I will see how it goes... its tiny! about 3mm diameter and 8mm long... It works at the moment, but time will tell!
well here it is... not quite finished as Royal Mail has let me down again... It didn't start first time, in fact I spent MANY hours trying to find why I had no spark... Turns out it was because the bank angle sensor was faulty... I managed to bypass it and take it out of the circuit.
