Sorry missed this first time. I bought a V2 in 2020 when they were released, jumped up from R6's and loved it. So much, sold both R6's and bought a 959 as a track bike so have the last 2 baby twin models. To go back to the question above - I have them side by side and personally think the 959 is the better looking bike of the two (If it didnt have shotgun exhaust and SSSA would be even better so get a 1299 if thats what you want as you will spend the difference upgrading an 899 or 1299) I test rode a V4S last year, stunning bike, absolute buzz twisting that throttle and big difference. Walked out thinking got to get one, few days pondering decided it was too much for the road. Also, track wise it would be way better can tell, but I havent even got on top of the 959 yet (Lack of track time last year) so decided to spend some money on the 959 and track it this year instead and no regrets. The only thing I would say about all baby Panigales, have a rubbish rear shock - either get it re-valved (MCT) or replace it with a better one and that will improve the riding more than any other mod I have done.
No matter what bike you have, once your eyes start wandering it’s only a matter of time. You’ll buy some trinkets and sure, it’ll be ok for a bit, but eventually you’ll have to give in to that new bike lust
Went out to look at mine earlier, just posting this here as while I don’t mind the v4, I think they just nailed it with the 899/1199 shape.
Forgot about this thread - despite what I thought of the V2 and what I said back in March, I did end up buying a new V4S in May Dont regret it one bit from a riding point of view, looks wise still think the previous generation panigales are the better looking bikes. I did look at a 1299 FE at the time also, but got such a big discount on the new one due to the new model coming out this year it worked out cheaper for a brand new V4S so couldn't say no! But keeping the 959 as my track bike, it owes me nothing and still a great bike and love the look of it
Hi im in a similar position, ridden 899s since 2014and always had the smaller displacement Ducatis. 748r 848 etc. How are you finding the V4 in comparison? Ive seen a 2021 V4 SP I like the look!!
I can’t compare yet as I’ve ridden it from work to home so far, 1.5 miles along a 30mph! Those extra 2 cylinders are noticeably smoother compared to the twin. The suspension felt stiffer but it needs setting to my weight first as my 899 is well dialled in.
I am off to Philip Island on Friday to ride my V4S. Last time I was there in 2019 I was on my ex-Trioptions 899. I made a video of the 899 and will hopefully return with a similar video of the V4S. Hopefully the sound will be a bit better
i went a few months ago to have a good good look at a V2 at croydon ductati, i was looking to sell it to myself and if sold i would have bought one the exhaust just put me off, the 899/1299 termignoni thing was a masterpiece, back then Ducati were using italian pipes on their intalian bikes in motogp SBK etc and they just work very subtle, like the Lacoste alligator, the brand just looks perfect on then bike i wanted to buy it but just didnt like (fall in love with) some of the subtle details, the 899 is so round and smooth, its form over function, every vent does a job. i ride the 899 in race mode 99% of the time, all settings set to zero and my ABS is blanked off, so its as raw as an 899 can be, all baffles out, servo disconnected, loud as F im 100% if i bought the V2 id miss it Bikes and cars seem to have gone up in tech but down in desirability in the last 10 years or so, just look at BMW m cars, they are fast as fck but hideous had 3 audi tts, the current one is not a patch on me old mark 2
I still love my 899, it’s amazing. My plan for 2025 is to get the shock revalved, and possibly a custom map to just make sure the fuelling is as good as it possibly can be. Then sort the brakes out, they are crap, even on new pads and all new fluid etc. my other bike is a speed triple 1200rr with absolutely mind blowing brakes so it makes the 899 ones feel even worse
I've done just over 29.000 miles on my 899. Really love it; apart from the ABSOLUTELY CRAP rads. Both have failed now. l/h/s shoulder on bottom one at first Desmo service & rear face of top one this month when in for 2nd Desmo jobbie.
na, not for the road mate, just not into that. the 1299 has the same ABS and the brakes are way better, it’s the calipers that are crap and always were.
Oops… I kinda knew what was coming there. You came flying past me on the brakes at Portimao. And I remember thinking your front end was a bit eeeek…. But hey, you were lapping significantly quicker than me at the time…
