It seems the Frenchies have been looking at whether to ban filtering in France. Looks like their period of review will carry on to 31 July 2025 - a reprieve for now. The article is in French - but you can translate into English on your browser: https://moto-station.com/moto-revue...os-et-les-scooters-jusqua-juillet-2025/686020
Basically translates that review will be 31 July 2025. You can filter on a dual carriageway, but at no more than 50kph, and you should not be doing more than 30kph faster than the moving traffic. Otherwise 3 points and a fine.
This. It will be like the stickers on helmets and breathalysers. Too many scooterists and motards to take on. Dont though, be tempted to filter on a single lane approach to a roundabout, that will get you points.
Update from the same mag: Dès ce samedi 11 janvier, il sera totalement légal de circuler en inter-files pour les deux et trois roues motorisés partout sur le territoire. It seems the Franchies have brought the judgement ahead of the deadline and as of 11 January 2025 it is legal for 2 & 3 wheelers to lane-split in France. There are conditions and of course fines for getting it wrong and going to fast and breaking the rules. But within the rules filtering is legal in France (after 9 years of review) - hooray. https://moto-station.com/moto-revue...-inter-files-cif-legalisee-pour-de-bon/691390
Yep, don’t filter too fast and don’t do it with luggage that’s too wide (1meter max). Common sense, really…
Me and a mate got stopped by the Police on the Paris Peripherique for filtering a few years back. All very friendly and no fines, but got told in French to fuck off back to Angleterre, but all very friendly! We had a ferry to catch, so that excuses all crimes!!!
Especially when you forget they are fitted… #frenchpaint And probably over the 50 kph difference too…. #inthezonetocathcaferry
I just thought the article would be of interest as quite a few on this forum go touring to France during the season. That magazine is worth a read - you can translate it into English - my browser even reads the article in French - like a free French lesson about bikes ! It can even give a heads up about bike events, and protests ! A really cool mag, easy to translate...
