Not about noisy exhausts, but related about being stopped by the police. Last September my pal (on a V4S) and myself, (on a 1260S with a full Termi) were stopped as we left a small town in Germany. We'd been riding through within the speed limit, but this was a roadside 'routine check' on motorbikes, and others ahead of us had been puled over. What excited the police in my case was my aftermarket riding lights. They had a center white LED with blue LED Angel Eyes. The copper explained that in Germany only Police vehicles can have blue lights at the front - I must switch them off. I said they were ignition switched so I couldn't, but I actually could have as they were powered from the DIN socket by the dash. He started off officiously, but he was a human being and I found out he was a motorcyclist himself, and I guessed correctly that he rode a GS . During further questioning I said we were heading into France, which we were, and at that he said 'Oh well then, I don't care about France, off you go!' As for APNR pulls, I rely on a Stealth Plate https://www.stealthplate.co.uk/faqs/ which purports to block IR light used these days by speed cameras, whilst letting visible light through. So far I'm sure I've been through a few cameras here and there that I've failed to spot in time, but have yet to receive a ticket.
A ticket from a motorway camera just outside Santander followed one of our group back to blighty last year. It was protecting a place where the limit reduced from 130kph down to 110kph. The fine wasn’t very much and was easy to pay. Better to pay than for some official to discover that you have an unpaid fine later on. No licence points were harmed during the making of this commercial. There are some roads in the Spanish Pyrenees that have noise/vehicle restrictions. They are just west of Andorra and are mostly roads that go up dead-end valleys.
The Spanish authorities are now using drones to check speed also. Rule of thumb in all instances is, have fun, just not too much Within reason then, fines should be the only worry.
I like ragging it just as much as the next dude, but obviously in the middle of nowhere...130kph in a 50 is really taking the piss, 50 means it's still built up...you wouldn't do 80mph in a 30 in the UK without thinking about the consequences...
Yep. Agreed. In context, I was riding with someone else, we got a 12kmh over the limit fine, outskirts of a tiny village. Built up? Open to debate but there were two or three houses, which we passed under the limit. Seriously, only fields and mountains for miles either side of the road and only just the wrong side of the national speed limit sign. Pretty much a money spinner as we were within the limit next to any houses or driveways. Still, imo, you make your own choices and live by them. Not sure of the exact location for the excess speeding fine.
Wonder what would happen if suddenly everyone would start to drive by the rules 100%. Would police and media announce victory and total happiness even if accidents would decrease marginally or they would just invent new laws, taxes etc because they would lost profit. Maybe decrease noise levels to 50dB. Pollution excuse would be great next step. Interestingly, lawn mover has 95dB
Btw, I seem to spend more time these days watching my speedo, instead of the road. A state of permanent terror incase I slip over the limit in a 20, 30 or 40 zone. Recently found a road that has been 40mph for the last ten years is now 30. Nothing to indicate changes, apart from removal of the 40 sign, as it is between two villages. Bets on a speed camera being parked there soon ?
Two electric trials bikes cut across the local park when I was walking the dog at the weekend. Ban to follow….
That is already illegal, banning will not work unless you want manufacturing of such vehicles to be stopped. Which is possibly a very slippery slope to wish to slide on.
That’s a valid point. All the limitations at the end result in less interest in that area. Consequently, there’s less spending, and the economy slows down.
That reminds me: I went through a little village in France and just happened to pick up a Gendarme on my tail. He was just waiting to come out of a turning and pulled in behind me as I passed. Just normal traffic stuff. I kept my speed to the limits, through the little town and out, with the Gendarme still behind. All legal dead on the speed limits. After a while a I noticed large buildup of traffic was visible behind me - a long queue of "slow" moving traffic had built up with me (and the Gendarme) at the front of it. Traffic coming in the other direction looking at this spectacle. The Gendarme eventually turned off at the next little town and we all sped up and got on with our day !
The clue to there not being signs is because repeater signs are only put when the speed limit is above the highest lower speed limit. so in a 30 zone you should not have repeater signs but if the road was a 40,50, 60 or nsl you would have the repeater signs to remind you. not sure how it’d work in Wales with their 20 limit as I’ve not been there since.
Yep, had a speed awareness course around 15yrs back… The section of road that has just changed is more likely to catch out locals, they will not be looking to see if the sign is still there…there are no 30 repeater signs either.
