Finally got this screw out, it was a badly rounded 6mm socket head, looks like someone had rounded it trying to remove it in its past, i had to resort to an extractor bit, one of them little demons that you screw into the head anticlockwise, anyway it was made of cheese and its chewed the head up good and proper, and a new OE part costs over £27 with shipping!!...i'll have to invest in a small lathe...unless anyones got a spare screw kicking about that they don't need
Unless you’re trying to keep the bike 100% original can you not use an off the shelf stainless cap head bolt of the same dimensions? That will cost you about £1 singly or you’ll probably get a bag of £50 of them for the price of the OEM part. I realise the OEM part has a shoulder to it but that’s easily sorted with a washer (stainless) .
Yes thanks, i had thought of just fitting a countersunk cap head bolt, its out of sight and i'm not precious about keeping the bike original to that extent, a 12mm stainless bolt is about a fiver off ebay.
Try melting a Red crayon onto the Exhaust pipe Joints to lube the Joint some also works a treat for Tight or seized threads with some heat applied, Breastfed
A fiver . PM me the bolt dimensions and your address and I’ll post you one for free, I’ve a vast selection here - hopefully, if marked as a gift it will pass customs and arrive without you having to pay VAT. Also don’t forget to apply copperslip or alumslip to the bolt when reinserting it. It will minimise corrosion and seizure making future removal easier.
