V4 Seat Removal Issue

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by ymfb, Dec 17, 2023.

  1. Removing the seats is awkward, the key goes in, but often doesn’t come out easily. I recently sprayed the lock barrel with GT85, but it’s still not great. I think the location is not ideal, being in a place where roadspray is prevalent.

Anyone else had an issue with the Multistrada V4S seat lock, if so how have they fixed it ?

  2. I also experience problems removing the key from the seat lock but have not tried to fix it - just take care not to try too hard to remove the key :)

  3. Not had my V4 for long enough but don't use any sort of lubricant/water dispersant spray on a lock. Rub the key with a pencil lead. Andy

  4. I also find the key quite fiddly to remove, have to be very careful not to damage the carbon exhaust shield when removing it.

  5. I use a 'dry'ptfe spray (carrier liquid evaporates off almost immediately). Works for me.

  6. You need graphite lubricant for locks.

  7. The lock itself works as it should. It’s the removal of the key that’s the issue, for me.

  8. I suspect it might be part of the design so the key does not drop out.

  9. That’s my problem, I’m going to the dealer on Friday so will ask.
This post was really to see if or how common the issue is.

  10. Have the same problem on the ZSX. Besides using Graphite spray, I also place a small piece of insulating tape over the hole, to further protect it. It has not yet, blown off, whilst riding.

  11. As the one and only key supplied (excluding the red key which should always be kept safely at home) is very fragile I got another key made up which won’t break like the OEM one can and which I use solely on the luggage and seat locks as, yes, extraction of the key from the seat lock can be fiddly at times.

Also, WD40 make a graphite spray specifically for locks.

  12. Has anyone come up with a successful solution to removing the key from the seat lock ?

    I tried PTFE spray.

    Thanks

  13. On the hyper you need to twist the key a touch more to be able to remove it (seatlock)

My previous bike, r6 and some of my friends yamaha bikes, the ignition key needed to be pushed up before turning for it to be smooth

Seeing a friend trying to turn his bike on was like watching someone drunk fiddle their keys gettting into the front door until showed... it could just be one of those nick nacks bikes seem to have

  14. You're worried about the seat? Have you not tried the paniers yet? :D

  15. As I said above, get a spare key made up. If you use the one and only hands free key it will eventually break.
