Hi guys I picked up an 899 recently and would like to track it Can you remove the lights and leave the everything else in place or do you need to replace some parts to support the nose fairing and tail unit etc? many thanks
On both the 959 and V2 (and therefore I assume the 899 too) you would need a headlight blank fitted assuming you are running Ducati fairings (road or track jobs - same for both). The two side fairings bolt together at the front to a captive nut housed in the headlight plastic. Without this the fairings would rip themselves apart at track speed. You also need to secure the fairing to the mirror mount points but bolts and washers work here. On the tail unit I think you could simply remove the light. You will get an Amber engine warning unless you fit resistors for lights removed including indicators.
Not done it on a 899 but Ive just stripped down my 959 to track fairings and removed all lights ETC and they seem mostly similar. The only issue was that if you hit either brake, this would light up the engine management light on the dashboard. On the 959 fairly easy fix, the sensors are fail shut so just unplug them and the problem stops rather than remove. The front brake is twin connector so can just remove both (I have now shrink wrapped them) but they are plugged in on the right side of the bike in front of the control units inside the fairing The rear brake light switch - if you follow the cable back it goes into the plastic bit where the brake reservoir is and just in front of there, a 2pin white connector If needed let me know and Ill get a pic up next time I get it out but its parked against he wall at the moment Again, this was a 959 but mostly think they are the same in terms of layout from what I can tell
Did you fit a headlight blank or just secure the two fairing halves together under the headlight fixing with a nut and bolt or zip tie? Thinking about it these two options would probably be fine.
You mean the bottom/lower tray bit: I stuck the bottom light cover back on but no blank as the track fairings use an air intake and the ABS delete module and gubbins now all sit where the blank was - I used the push clips from a car panel kit I had laying around (but the screw in ones) but will put a strip of gaffa over that edge before putting hte fairings back on as a backup and to stop any vibration once I actually get some wind under it. My fairings clip into the air scoop, so that acts as one of stays but I will add a dzus and lock wire to the front of the nose into the lower tray as a backup too. I have boxes of these if you want some, the larger of the two goes in the oval hole, the smaller goes in the other (cant remember which way round it was) For the other lights, they dont seem to trigger a warning light on the dash that was only the brake lights so have no resistors or bypass on those ETC.
My bad. I was mixing up v2 and 959/899’s. The v2 has a different fastening system (where the two side fairings join under the headlamp and get bolted into it. I was working of memory (poor obviously!) of my 959 track bike. I sold it two to three years ago.
Ah see what you mean (Got a V2 road bike next to it) - yeah nothing needs to go from the tray to the fairing. Worth noting for the OP I guess I am using after market fairings not Ducati ones, so might need a different solution or blank if using the OEM's
Anyone know where I can get a brake light eliminator or know which size of resistor I'd need to bypass the brake light on the 899? I've got the EML light on and showing the fault as the stop light. Bikes running aftermarket track fairings
See above for my 959 post, someone track side said was same on his 899. Cant you just unplug the sensors? They are fail shut so only activate if pressed
