So, I have a bright red 1999 SuperSport but have just bought a matt black Sport, with no miles, never registered or been on the road. My plan is to upgrade a load of parts once it's run in, mainly carbon and original Ducati Performance, which handily I already have stashed away. I was planning to put them on my SS but will now keep it original. Nice to have one of the proper oldskool air-cooled twins from new: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/156498244705
Better yet, they wanted to move it on just before Christmas, so I put in a cheeky offer of £2500, we settled on £2750.
That, along with 1 indicator, and the front brake lever/reservoir got pinched as spares for another bike. But luckily I have a mph NOS stashed away with zero miles. I've checked the VIN and it's never been registered. Tyres are original are have no signs of wear. Obviously they'll need to be replaced!
Upgrades I've got in mind are the suspension, front and rear. Plus some carbon Ducati Performance pipes, stainless steel (slightly larger bore) down pipes, K&N air filter, a better aluminium swinging arm, remapped ECU, the starting boost better cables, a load of carbon parts (hugger, front guard, open clutch, belt covers, etc. etc.) that will go well with the matt black finish of the bike. Not the glossy stuff, but the matte twill. A tail tidy, Corbin seat, double bubble smoked screen, maybe a Moto Forza bellypan in the same matt black. Pretty much all of this stuff, I already have stashed away... I'll post pics on here as the evolution takes place. I'm thinking I might turn it into a bit of a track bike, which is funny because I've only ever done one track day in 30 years of riding and I hated it. But I'm now convinced it was the bike (CBR6) and not necessarily riding on a track. We will see.
I'd say it'd be worth getting a period registration. I'm sure either DOCGB or the factory would be able to confirm manufacturing date, etc to satisfy the DVLA.
Totally agree. I've already reached out to DOCGB of which I'm a member, but an age related plate is the way forward.
Well, that wasn't meant to be! Bike was due to be collected this morning, and someone on the motorcycle shop forecourt reversed into it knocking it onto the bonnet of another car. Lots of damage, too much for me to want to take on, so they're giving me a refund. Fortunately, they've got the driver on CCTV, reg, everything. He even stopped to check to see what damage he'd done before driving off!?
Yes, nothing dodgy going on. Seen the pics and had a chat with the transporter, who I know personally, who'd got there shorty after the damage was discovered.
