Toprak to miss the first test of the year due to injury. https://www.crash.net/wsbk/news/1061973/1/toprak-razgatlioglu-forced-out-first-2025-worldsbk-test Toprak Razgatlioglu has been ruled out of this week’s WorldSBK test at Jerez due to an injury. GPOne reports that the reigning and two-time WorldSBK Champion picked up the injury in training, forcing the Turkish rider to sit out this week’s two-day test in southern Spain on 15-16 January. Despite Razgatlioglu’s dominance in 2024, the preseason this year is an important one for BMW, which has an updated M1000 RR to dial in. The responsibility for that in Jerez this week will fall, in Razgatlioglu’s absence, to his factory BMW teammate, Michael van der Mark, and the Bavarian marque’s official test test team riders: Sylvain Guintoli and Markus Reiterberger. BMW will not be the only manufacturer in Jerez this week, as GPOne reports the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto has, on this occasion, been rented by the Bimota by KRT squad for this Wednesday and Thursday. As a result, of course Bimota’s official riders, Alex Lowes and Axel Bassani, will be present, along with Kawasaki’s Garrett Gerloff. Additionally, Iker Lecuona and Xavi Vierge will be there for Honda, as well as the Japanese marque’s test team, and the Petronas MIE squad, which announced its rider line-up last week as Tarran Mackenzie and Zaqhwan Zaidi. Yamaha will be in attendance, too, with both its factory roster of Jonathan Rea and Andrea Locatelli, and the satellite GRT team’s riders: Dominique Aegerter and Remy Gardner. Tito Rabat and Bahattin Sofuoglu will ride for the Motoxracing team, as well. For Ducati, the factory riders, Nicolo Bulega and Alvaro Bautista, will be joined by the full roster of the Italian brand’s satellite riders: Yari Montella and Danilo Petrucci for Barni, Ryan Vickers for Motocorsa, Andrea Iannone for Go Eleven, Sam Lowes for Marc VDS, and Scott Redding for MGM Bonovo.
Was it training, or p*ssing around doing stunts on road bikes? Which is cool to watch but carries risks I’m not sure BMW would really like him taking. Either way good to see how everyone stacks up. I really hope Yamaha have found something for this year. My worry is that they are just going to get completely destroyed
https://www.crash.net/wsbk/live/worldsbk-2025-jerez-test-day-1-live-updates A 1:40:2 puts him just under three and a half seconds slower than the fastest Moto GP lap time from FP1 last year. Make of that what you will
Don’t read a thing into the times, they are 3 seconds off, completely meaningless other than the gap between the riders. Roughly speaking it seems the Yamaha hasn’t made a step, and arguably as much as I really like the guy, Guintoli being 4.5 seconds slower than the other BMW riders is meaningless for development of the bike, test riders need to be within a second of the the official riders to really be able to do meaningful development (not my words, taken from oxley and those more qualified to comment)
https://www.crash.net/wsbk/results/1062206/1/jerez-world-superbike-test-results-day-1 Sr45 must be quietly pleased after his first day back however meaningless times may be at this stage
Be good to see him back at the sharp end. Been following his Instagram and his training, i think he is looking at this year as make or break.
Hopefully his hard work is starting to pay off https://www.crash.net/wsbk/news/1061778/1/scott-redding-completes-first-ducati-laps-2021
yep, annoying though because they are limited on test days, they won’t go out as it starts their allowance! Seeing as they have all spent all the money getting there, the championship should just give them a pass to go out and ride and let them develop in the wet (more for wet weather use etc), it’s a bit of a farce really as they have hundreds of people and circuit staff all there just for no one to ride because of the test day restriction
More rain in Portimao for the WSB test argghhh Garrett Gerloff tops the opening day of the Portimao World Superbike test at midday, the American taking advantage of improving track conditions towards the end of the morning to take the top spot. The morning has seen very little running so far with Gerloff one of only three full-time WorldSBK riders to set a time to now as a result of wet track conditions. Is it me or is the weather just getting worse and worse each year? Doesn’t help that the seasons are now so long that the pre-season tests are all in Jan! I think if they just had testing last week of Feb and mid march and then crack on they would all have much better luck!
SR45 P16 and a good 1.5ish off the top. BUT, as has been said, it’s testing so not too much to be read into it I guess.
12:00 And... it seems like it's raining again. Everyone apart from Fores, who just did a 2:03.307, is back in the pits.
I appreciate “it’s only a test” etc.. but some of us have been waiting two months for it. The official wsb site was piss poor on updates and general coverage. Am I missing something? it’s almost like the content writers on these sites (MotoGP.com/crash etc) do it for free it’s that half arsed.
Crash.net went through the whole of last year without publishing either the wsb or bsb calendars on their wsb and bsb pages. Gis a job!
They’re missing such a trick it’s embarrassing especially with the riches of cheap-ish technology available now. I’d have paid a couple £/euros on their www to watch drone coverage hovering over the track on my laptop while I’m working today and I’m sure I’m not alone. Absolute minimum effort and expense to organise too.
