Hi, Any tips on the best way to enjoy the German GP? I'm torn between T2 (first corner and a view of top of the waterfall) and T13. T13 will be faster/more overtaking but the stand will be far from the track and the corner is far from the rest of the facility. Thoughts from the experienced please?
Have done the Ducati stand twice. Plenty of incidents to see with the hairpin and the video wall opposite. My mate who was a photographer got some awesome shots of the racers as the circuit passes the back of the stand. You are on the inside of the circuit (bit of a walk and a busy bridge) but there are plenty of facilities and food stands. Have done the Honda stand once. On the outside of the circuit and near loads of things. It is really well organised. If on your bike or in a car and are staying away from the circuit then be aware a one way system is operated after the race. Everyone is directed towards the autobahn 4. Lots of beer available.
Thanks, good stuff. Do you know if they allow stand ticket holders to roam (other stands) on Friday/Saturday like at Silverstone? There also seems to be lots of gen. admin. viewing…anyone experienced it?
Roaming may not be possible if the stewards are in place checking tickets. Didn’t try it to be honest. It will be packed all 3 days, especially on race day. We gave up our Friday entrance one time so that we could stay at Colditz Castle Thurs/Fri, do the tour and have a leisurely ride to our hotel. First time we went it was cracking the flags, the other 2 times it peed it down.
Got the tickets, we went for T2. Next question is where to stay. Any thoughts on best areas for nightlife? I understand it’s a bit crazy at the track campsite but we don’t fancy camping. So somewhere where we’ll feel connected to the race fans…but with old man creature comforts…
We used to stay in Chemnitz (Karl Marx Stadt in the old GDR days and Octopussy fame). Plenty of eateries/bars in the city centre (a taxi ride away from where we stayed on the outskirts of the city). The race teams tend to snap up all the hotels on the outskirts of the city towards the circuit. The ETAP hotel on Carl Hammel Strasse that we used twice (popular but cheap) has closed down unfortunately. The other hotel we used was the Achat (popular with teams/support). If you are going on your bikes, for parking there is a VW dealer bang opposite the road to the circuit’s main entrance. They close for 3 days and allow parking of bikes on their car park for a reasonable fee.
Does anyone know about the Ankerberg music festival? Is it free to motogp ticket holders or do you have to have a camping ticket to enter? Sorry, basic questions but struggling to find the answers on the internet.
According to this, https://ankerberg-festival.de/camping/informationen-anreise/, entry to the festival grounds is free. Andy
Anyone hired bikes from Berlin? We hired them last year for lemans (ask for Rafael at Hertz Ride in Paris) and it was a great experience. Again (clearly I’m shit) I’m struggling to find any decent info online.
