I’ve refitted my right-hand fairing after having it resprayed but I have a top hat thingy left over and I can’t figure out where it’s from. As far as I remember there’s only 6 bolts: Top 2 above the indicator that attaches to the nose cone The 2 underneath that join the 2 halves together The rear main one that screws into the frame stay without a top hat thingy. The front main one that uses a top hat thingy to meet the frame, with the longer bolt. The top hat thingy I’ve got left over is longer than the top hat thingy that the front bolt uses. Any ideas where it’s from?
Looks like you’re familiar with them all. My guess would have been the one that that sits in the frame stay and accepts the main bolt. Could it have been sitting in the fairing for a while, lost by a previous owner?
Doesn’t look familiar to me a I have had the fairing off my 750 more times than I care to remember. It isn’t part of the rubber captive insert from the rear so can’t see anything else it could be. As Carr01 said, perhaps it’s been sat in the fairing for a while and just dropped out when you took it off. Have you had the fairing off before?
Cheers for the reassurance. There’s every possibility that it’s off a completely different bike. I had all the bits in a pot whilst the fairing was being repaired and resprayed but one of my cats knocked it off the workbench and I just picked everything up off the floor and put it back in the pot. But weirdly, it’s the same diameter (ID and OD) as the correct piece which made me think it must be off the Ducati somewhere. I’ll just keep it safe for now.
I’ve got 5 of the furry idiots and for some reason they love getting themselves trapped in the garage for maximum disruption.
