This'll be quick... The paint on the roller bar has failed and peeled off causing the rollers to seize and the foot pump piston is leaking oil all over my garage floor. I reached out to Abba in December who sent me to the distributer we ordered through here in the NL (AFS Motorsport) who have been radio silent since delivery back at the start of 2024. When I asked Abba directly, they just sent me back to AFS. So here I am, with a failing stand and no way to have it fixed/returned or at worst, recognised that it's failing. The only two bikes that have been on the lift are a MTS 1260 and a gen 1 R6. Hardly a difficult first year for the stand. What's worse is this was a gift from my wife who feels terrible that it's essentially going to be thrown away, but I'll be visiting the UK soon again where I'm simply going to dump it at the offices of Abba. Had enough of it and will demand a refund on the spot. I really like the functionality of the stand, but if something goes wrong, you're shit out of luck and out of pocket - Specifically when ordering through AFS Motorsport in the Netherlands. My experience doesn't reflect direct from Abba (regardless of them not helping me in my situation) or other distributors. Avoid them.
What a pain , however I think we'd all agree that the simple ABBA stands are great. Maybe alter the title to 'ABBA Skylift' or whatever version you're having the frustrating time with.
The people you bought it from are responsible for making it good. If they are still in business can you not take it back to them?
I totally agree, but how when they are simply not accepting calls/emails I feel that if Abba are in partnership with AFS and AFS are not honouring their warranty agreements with customers, then what option have I got but to go direct to Abba? Essentially, I've been given the run around, at least thats how it feels.
I sent some pretty shitty emails to both Abba and AFS this morning explaining that I've had enough after months of trying to get a response... Low and behold, I suddenly hear from AFS who is going to come back to me with replacement parts. Given the track record of ghosting, I'll wait and see until the end of March. Even if it does get to the point nothing happens, I'm not going to waste my time on a court claim, I'll just get something to replace it with and move on.
I hope AFS (whose name should really be amended to ASS) come through and resolve this for you. In the UK we have a very simple small claims court, where the fees are £35, and its very likely imo that a case such as yours would win. Not too sure what a Skylift costs, but far more than that would be my guess. https://www.gov.uk/make-court-claim-for-money/court-fees
Update - They will send me a new foot pump with instructions and a tool tray as an apology. I'm going to chalk this up to a 'one off', despite it being months of trying to contact them.
Glad you’re getting it sorted. I had a skylift for many years never had a problem with it, so guess you were unlucky
