Oh god not that Craig something or other who used to advertise double glazing? Thought he’d been put out to pasture ages ago.
I think Steve English might be the one with the Irish Accent as I see he went to Dublin University, in which case I have no idea who the other person is. They certainly don't inject much excitement or mechanical knowledge into their commentating. It's very matter-of-fact.
Yes that sounds about right. Never heard them before. Just called Sky to see if they’d do a better deal than £29pm for TNT. Guy said they’ve had loads of calls from pissed off customers re Eurosport bikes going to TNT. He said he didn’t have any deals and it was showing as £30 for TNT. Couldn’t have seemed less interested, very noisy background which made it very hard to hear him. Tried to sell me Sky Sports and movies instead.
WUP means Warm Up, it's the warm up session, never watched it but I would expect commentary. The "No Spoiler" applies to the video title, if you navigate via the Video menu then you see the video title which often says who won so the No Spoiler menu just takes you direct to the video.
Bear in mind there are 22 race weekends in MotoGP, only 12 in WSBK. Also the video in MotoGP is via an app which is a much better experience than the video in WSBK in via a website browser. From my bank statement, MotoGP was £169 (for 22), WSBK was £58 (for 12). I find both preferable to a TNT subscription, just paying for what I want and not having to pay for the champions league. I was worried at first because I have spent years just recording it on my Sky box but streaming is working out just fine.
Yes, I am very close to cutting my ties with Sky. Given that I'd be watching on demand via the TNT app (for BSB and footy as well as MotoGP and SBK), the lack of recording ability is looking less of an issue. One thing preventing me cutting the cord is that if I switch to on-demand viewing from the terrestrial providers, I have to sucbscribe to their apps or put up with ads. Having said that, ITVX and Channel 4 subs combined would be £100 per year...
If you cancel Sky, you can still use the Sky box for free to air TV such as BBC ITV etc Sky have an exclusive contract for F1 in the UK so F1's equivalent to a videopass (called F1 TV) is blocked in Britain so I have to keep Sky Sports for F1.
I believe you have to as it's part of the contract I looked at getting Sky Q and I am not keen on some of the aspects of it. Particularly if you go for the free installation offer where, apparently, they give you an older model box with less capacity to store recordings.
They've pulled support on Sky+HD now and I’ve been getting emails to encourage me to go to Q. My mate's had it a few years - he hates it. Says the only decent thing is the recording capacity. From what I’ve seen, the interface seems overly complicated. If anything happens with my box (and has 2 or 3 times), i buy a 2nd hand/refurbed one off eBay for abt £40, although given I have a ‘special’ firestick and subs to Disco+, Netflix, Amazon etc as well as the free streaming services, I may well bin it.
I have a sideloaded Firecube and an ONN streaming box and use Syncler+ which is a paid-for app and it allows me to watch pretty much everything I want with regards to TV Series and current movies and it's only $15 per year for 5 devices but you need a debrid account of some sort to pull in the links, which costs extra. Unfortunately the above does not include any sports and as I am very adverse to Sky Q at this moment in time I can't quite see myself springing an extra £30 per month to watch bike racing alone. I might just go for a Wsbk subscription and watch the catch-up for the others when they become available. A bit of an unhappy situation overall with TNT having an effective monopoly.
I notice now if you press the red button on virgin media they’ve added six more TNT sports “channels” they can use when there’s an overflow I guess, thus negating any need to access discovery plus. Hopefully it works well. Eurosport is now “unavailable”.
I've been watching both the WSBK and MotoGP races using the online Videopass subscription service. I have just cancelled my Sky Stream contract because as like others on here, I was sick of paying for the Sky Sports focus on football or a seperate TNT contract (also football focused). You always knew it was winter with Eurosport UK when they broadcast the aggressive, fast-moving, ever-changing and completely unexciting Snooker as well as the World Staring Rounds between two competitors looking at each other across a table until one of them blinked..... I have a 3 year old 4K LG TV with a web browser app built in, I hook the TV up to my WiFi and I watch the motorcycle racing on my TV in 4K (Not Sky's 2K) by logging in once to the Dorna web site on the TV, it saves my credentials after that in the cookies. The commentary team on WSBK is something that I am trying to get used to. At least I don't have to listen to the Eurosport UK commentary team of "Mr Face Makeup" Toseland constantly repeating his unwelcomed opinions on the various riders and Greg Haines blithering on about "Jonathan Rea this and Jonathan Rae that". The MotoGP Videopass commentary team are ok..ish although pronouncing "Quartararo" presents a challenge to the anchorman..... The Moto2/3 commentary teams are good (Neil Spalding has some good insights). You can set the MotoGP website settings for your account to open up in the "no spoiler" web page, but sometimes they take 2-3 hours to post the recording stream to watch after the race/practice/sprint/qualifying, you also have access to all the previous races and seasons to watch in those dark winter months. I haven't found the same "no spoiler" setting for WSBK yet. I can watch MotoGP using my iPad with the MotoGP app, iPhone app or my Apple TV device which also has a MotoGP app (I think there is an app for the Playstation 5 too). If you have a friend with an Apple TV unit, you can throw it up onto their TV through if you're visiting, or you can take your Apple TV device with you if you travel. Of course I can log in as well using any web browser on a PC too. WSBK is only watched through a browser. I think you can throw the output up onto a TV equipped with Chromecast for those of you on Android. I'll watch BSB highlights on ITV4, I think Stuart Higgs might just have shot himself in the foot on the BSB move to broadcast live behind the TNT paywall.... Having been a Sky ViP customer for over 25 years, they need to wake up to the fact that they create or commission very little content, they are just a broadcast platform that we can get 95% of the same viewing content we enjoy elsewhere on lower cost Streaming Platforms including NetFlix, Prime, Paramount+, Apple TV, Dorna, BBC iPlayer. I can't watch F1 live anymore and there are some Sky Atlantic series I will miss, but £88 per month for two Sky Stream pucks watching basic TV and Sky Sports is just too much. Interestingly, last year they sent me a survey on my experience. I gave them 1/10 for everything and they sent me £108 straight into my account after reviewing my comments. My contract runs out next month, so we sh1t-canned it and we were warned that we would lose our ViP status with Sky.... feck me, BIG Deal! We ain't going back to Sky from now on.
