It was a couple of weeks ago. New tyres just fitted (Metzeler M9RR), dry roads, quite chilly though (2-3 degrees). Waiting to enter roundabout, going around at about 15mph, back steps out, and it's low-sliding over to other side of road. Not before I get most of the weight of the bike on my right ankle - that got broken quite badly, so had pins, screws inserted in my ankle and in plaster now. Bike stepped out super quick with only very modest acceleration. Was I heavy handed? There's the new tyres factor, and it was cold, possible diesel on roundabout? You can see the contact points below. I'd say the crash bar sliders/protectors did a pretty good job. Obviously the vulture-bike side panels are the most costly replacements. All parts ordered.
Sorry to hear this. If the tyres were brand new, first ride, I would guess it was that and the cold conditions.
Sorry to hear this. Could be any of diesel, cold, new tyres, poor surface or rider throttle a bit too heavy. My bet is on diesel or new tyres.
I would suggest a combination of all of the above, stick a bit o Diesel in the mix and unfortunately it let go Sorry for your unfortunate incident, hope you and the bike fix quickly, and your back on the road soon
Bad luck, hope that the ankle heals well. Inflicted a similar injury on myself last summer, I feel your pain. The bike is only plastic and metal and doesn't look too bad, the insurance will sort that out for you.
I've bought replacement parts - they're all cosmetic replacements so should be easy to install myself rather than take the hit on my insurance.
I’ve been thinking about fitting Wunderlich engine bars, but I mainly ride with metal panniers on which might render them less useful. Not sure, how much of a job is it to fit them? I have bought a set of crash bungs for the axles, just need to fit them.
Sorry to hear about the ankle - hope it mends well and soon. Good to know the Wunderlich bars did their job, I have them on my V4S. The other damage is just battle scars.
