V4 Does The Sliding Rear Pannier Mount Get On Your Wick Like Me ?

  1. Have to say, I’ve never got the theory behind why the plastic panniers have to move when you lean the bike. As I’m planning to go with the aluminium boxes this year, I spent some time looking the installation instructions and the aluminium box mounting kit comes with a slider lock. In reality, it’s just 2 shaped rubber inserts that go between the rear pannier mount and the rear subframe. The part numbers are 96711901AA and 96711911AA and cost just less than a tenner for the pair. Sadly I cannot see a similar solution for the sliding top box mount. Andy

  2. It would be nice if there was a kit to remove those altogether, as I don't use panniers, so would like to tidy that area up.

  3. Looking at the parts diagram, the rear sliding mount is relatively simple to remove completely, the front static mount is however part of the under tray moulding. Andy

  9. Always thought that was a crappy bit of cheap cost-cutting for a premium bike from Ducati, no doubt the bean counters at work. The 1200 and 1260 mirrors have rubber blanking plugs there as standard, they retail at £1.63 +VAT each and are probably pennies as far as Ducati are concerned.

  11. They are designed that way to help eliminate speed wobble, if you fit the aluminium panniers and fit the bar across the back of the rack it actually states the top speed is reduced.

The KTM 1290 super adventure used to suffer badly with speed wobble and they did this as well but it never worked, adjusting the preload to the max to bring up the rear of the bike and lowering the screen was the only way to combat it.

In my experience there was no wobble on my Rally at 150 but on my KTM there was even without the luggage on.
