Thanks. It’s taking a big chunk out of my pension pot to fund the move but it’ll be an investment too.
Fitted new battery to the car, old one was 8 years old and was starting to show signs of imminent failure. VW wanted about £350 plus labour. Local battery specialists £150 plus fitting, saying that the battery needs coding to the car... That's a new one on me. Ordered a sufficiently specified Yuasa for £110 delivered and got out my old Ross-Tech HEX OBD2 lead, a bit of faffage with installing software and drivers on my laptop and, with the help of a YouTube video, Robert's your mother's brother. It appears that the coding is just for optimal life of the battery.
Been up to see my dad, he's not in the best of health at the minute, the doctors have said that their is nothing more that they can/will do for him/his pain, he wanted my wife and I to go and see him to discuss his funeral arrangements, and the stuff after My eldest son turned up after work, with his girlfriend and my grandbabby, as usual, he wanted help fixing his car, between us, we swapped out both front lower wishbones, he decided it would be a challenge, he's a qualified HGV technician, I'm a HGV driver with a box of spanners, he started first, I still beat his ass
Insurance settlement hit my bank account yesterday, collected my new to me replacement car this morning. Obviously not happy to be put in the situation but pleased the new to me car is identical except much cleaner and shiny Andy
Following on from my post yesterday, I knew from the previous MoT history, the tyres on the car were borderline but as I still have the original wheels with new tyres on from the previous car (because I fitted a set of 18” rims), I managed to negotiated a good discount off the asking price. My job today was to swap the wheels over. I had my suspicions which have now been shown to be true ……. a 2019, 20,000 miles, one owner vehicle, running the original tyres, manufactured in weeks 43 and 44 of 2018 The fronts are a whisker off the tread wear indicator and the rears could be new. That’s Bridgestone for you. Andy
I was expecting it to take a little longer because I was told the damage assessors were at least a week behind but they submitted a report on the Friday (day 4) and the loss adjuster phone on the Monday (day 8). I spoke to the case handler on the Tuesday (day 8) and the money hit my account on Thursday (day 10). Apart from the stingy first offer and the slightly less stingy renegotiated offer I accepted, the recovery, claim handling and hire car was remarkably smooth. First thing I did after the collision when I got home was to trawl the SEAT used UK vehicle stock and Autotrader, which rather took the loss adjuster back but I found a replacement car through a local trader called Avocado Auto and they got it ready for me to collect on Saturday (day 12). As said previously, I would have much preferred not to have been put in the position but I’m moving on in a better frame of mind, now I’m mobile in a car I don’t have to learn to drive all over again again Andy
and to give credit where it's due - the company that turned everything around the most quickly for me (ever) was Sheila's Wheels. A car reversed into mine in the dark not realising it was there, i bought the car back and it now only owes me £300.
Went to a car meet first thing this morning, then a family dog walk with my cousins. Relaxing in the garden for a bit, before we go out for a Sunday lunch somewhere later.
Cut the grass ! Had a bit of lunch in the garden , then me and all the pets had a nice snooze. An hour out on a bike and come home to two sales on eBay .
1. Lodger got quoted 500 quid to change front pads and brakes on his Vitara. Cheap set of chinese pads and discs were 80 quid, 150 for a brembo set (which i advised him to get) - fitted those first thing this morning. 2. Located puncture on the rear of the hyper....got read to fix it - found i ran out of patches. Put that on the shelf. 3. Went to Halfords to get an 3/8 extension bar as mine broke...none in stock. 4. While i was out - went to Fowlers just to run the Hyper a bit - quite busy. 5. Got home and jet washed the decking. 6. Hoovered the house. 7. Sat down watching the brainwashing that is current You Tubers (Bike world R9 first review) - and this grinds my fucking gears...since when did an underpowered 900/120brake (for the weight - 197 fucking kilos i might add) become a middleweight?? im sorry id rather had the extra 100cc's and 30 more or so brake and an extra fucking cylinder. And very probably spend less (alot less) money to boot.
At the London Palladium for Jeff Stelling & friends, those friends being Paul Merson, Phil Thompson and Kammy.
