1200 DVT Tyres Question!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by glenandem, Mar 13, 2025.

  1. Currently have the standard scorpion trail 2 tyres on, front is due a change but rear should get me rear of this year out of it however I’m toying with changing both to Pirelli angel gt’s after reading good stuff, anyone run these at all or should I just stick with the scorpions and replace the front and be done with it!
Not ridden it hard enough to feel them out yet.

  2. I haven't personally used them yet (being fitted this weekend though) 2 mates have used them one of which is on his second pair and both recommend as a really good tire.

  4. Just seen that Pirelli have launched the Scorpion Trail 3, https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-gb/motorcycle/catalogue/product/scorpion-trail-iii. I was a huge fan of the Metzeler Roadtec 01SE on my first generation Öhlins 1200. I tried the newest Roadtec 02 on my V4 Pikes Peak and was not impressed. I suspect the 40kg difference between the two bikes (the V4 is heavier) might be the issue. I put the Angels on my girlfriend’s Scrambler and she likes them and can be a bit of a hooligan :D Andy

  5. I always used to use Pirellis (and very pleased with them). After I moved back to Scotland, I found that a rear lasted about 1200 miles (must be the corrosive Haggis shite on the roads) and that they took an age to warm up. Switched to Pilot Roads and find them absolutely great - now on the Road 6, which seem to have less of a tendency to square off than previous ones.

  6. The Angel GTs tend to follow the lines on the highway. If you live in an area where the highway is not smooth, that can get a bit unnerving.

  8. Agreed.

Very annoying and odd feeling too.

EDIT: It’s the Angel GT 2’s that have this habit.

  9. thats interesting to know, like the other post says anywhere in the uk lol we're screwed, im constantly avoiding pot holes and badly laid roads around the peaks where I live, one of the reasons I got rid of my fireblade that bike was constantly twitchy as anything due to the road surface!
I may just stick with the scorpions, interested watching a YouTube video about the carcase shape where the scorpion are almost a flatter curve than the angels too!

  10. Just the way it is, on Youtube ???

  17. I’ve asked this question before, would you let your mum choose you a girlfriend ? If the answer is no, why ask someone to choose you a tyre ? You learn by experience and in the tyre market today, if you stick to the known brands, you are unlikely to get an absolute shit tyre so you only have to live with your choice for 4000 miles (ish depending on your choice of throttle application and lean angle) :D Andy

  18. But we're not letting our Mum choose us a girlfriend; we're discussing young ladies' attributes with our mates. ;)
Where we choose to use the pick-up line is up to us :D

  19. cheers pal I agree what one man likes another hates however I’m just asking how those who’ve gone from the standard scorpions to angel gt’s have found them in general rather than ask about a broad range of tyres.
To be honest I’m gonna stick with the scorpion trails and just replace the front as rear is mint and I’ve been unable to fault them riding over random cold dry winter days since I bought the bike last august, if anything I’ve felt them start to slide as I lean the bike right over but I’m used to bikes sliding about with riding enduro but this bike won’t be getting thrashed on or off the rd with the wife on the bike so the scorpions will be fine.
