1st Gen Multistrada 1200s Another Abs/dtc Question

  3. The problem is resolved. After getting no joy with a brand new sensor set at the correct gap, I removed one thin shim and tried again. The gap actually below bottom limit at the tightest point. I rode to the service station and had the same ABS/DTC error. I filled up, rode off and then noticed all the warning lights were out. I was so shocked I missed my turn and during the u-turn the ABS/DTC warnings came back on. However, the next time I started the bike, everything worked properly and has done since.
    The thick shim in the stack had actually corroded and I wonder if this had increased the gap outside the range of operation though it was in spec. The other oddity is the the bike seemed to need to "get used to" the new gap setting before it agreed to use the signal. I wonder if the ABS software includes a learning loop.
    I bet the original sensor will work now as well. Three months working on it when 5 minutes with an 8mm spanner would have sufficed.
    Ah well, c'est la vie!
