  1. Weather was stunning today, knocked out a 40 miler with a couple of mates.
No pics as it turned into a testosterone fuelled pissing match :D

    which was nice….

  3. I've watched a few vlogs created by people doing the same, it looks a fascinating country.
    Looking forward to the pics.
    Are you hiring bikes?

  4. No bought bikes, Son bought his from a shop in Kyoto, bought mine from eBay. Both bikes second user but he’s bought a Marin Nicosia and I’ve bought the Marin Four Corners.

Just in the process of buying the bikepacking equipment.
A day to kit the bikes out then off to our start point the further South we dare.

I’m flying out April 1st from LHR to Tokyo Narita with Cathay Pacific, cheapest flight I could find at short notice as my Son decided he wanted to have me come out over a Month earlier. Flights went from 1K to 2K, so was forced to look much harder at the cheapest/quickest flight. £1300 in the end with a stop in HongKong of an hour.

  5. So, you're shipping your bike over to Japan?

  6. This is almost worthy of a short film! what an adventure.

  7. No comes with me on the airplane. I have a 23kgs allowance bike and camping equipment and a very minimal set of everyday clothing.

Son reassured me that we can eat out of convenience stores easily as they have microwaves and griddles to cook on.
It should be if I wasn’t such a Luddite, bought a dynohub though along with some other stuff to keep my phone alive. Think the parcel carriers are getting bored of delivering to the house by now.

Still need to sort out a SIM card for my phone in Japan, around £30 for 30days unlimited data which is all I’ll need.

It’s 20 plus degrees at the start point could be as high as 30 as we ride North, I’ll try and post on this thread as much as I can.

  8. Soz, yes that's what I meant by 'shipping' as opposed to renting or buying out there.
As for keeping stuff charged, most seem to use PV these days.

  9. Ah ok, my Son is shipping his snowboard and non essential clothing back to the UK by sea for £60. Airfreight was prohibitively expensive.

  10. Sounds epic.
A not so epic ride for me today, enjoyable though.

  11. If your phone supports an e sim, download the Roamless app, I can send you referral if you like, which will give us both a. £5 credit after you have loaded some credit.

it has saved me a small fortune.

  14. Love the sloping chainstays and the tiny head tube with the forks, it’s kinda steampunk in looks to me.

I have a steel MK2 but I really should have bought the trellis front fork when I had the opportunity.

His frames are excellent to ride, but I don’t like his MK3 and onward forks, not ever been a fan of a curve in the fork as it meets the dropout.

Hopefully he’ll open his shop for pre orders, even a steelie would do but a Ti would be sublime.

  15. ooof, $17,000 bike, nice route though. Some i've cycled up and 1 i've ridden a mmotorcycle up.

  16. Tomorrow will be the first time i will have thrown my leg over the saddle since March 9th, always tricky to get going after a layoff. I have been skiing but that uses different muscles. Five weeks to Loch Ness Etape so need to get some hills in.
