V4 Iconic Vs Evotech Sat Nav Mount

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Gaffa22, Mar 23, 2025.

  1. Hi does anyone have experience with both the Iconic and Evotech sat nav brackets.
I’m looking to fit an Aoocci C6 Pro so would be interested in feedback on the brackets and which you feel is best.

  2. I use the EVOTECH and had the Iconic before and feel the EVOTECH is better , more supportive and well made . Used it with Garmin Xt , Chigee and just about to try it with Carpuride

  3. I chose the Iconic mount - I think it looked better in terms of less exposed metalwork on display.
I mounted a Garmin Zumo XT2 - and this was too heavy for the plastic mounts Iconic initially supplied.
You can get metal mounts as an option now. IMO - they should supply metal mounts as standard.
For that reason I'd probably get the Evotech now if I was buying again.

  4. So if you look at the way they mount - the Evotech is visible through the screen.

The Iconic Mount is not visible in the same way. Which is why I think it looks better - IMO.
    See this install video

    It's pretty subjective TBH.

  5. Thanks Ian, so looks wise I agree, but how would you compare performance, is one better than the other with a heavy sat nav attached.
I can see the mounting point are very different but does this affect the rigidity of the bracket.
In the iconic video you can see the whole screen assembly has some flex and movement

  6. Looking at the weight of the Aoocci and the Garmin XT2 they are very similar.
I still see some flex/movement when riding with the Iconic mount and metal mounts ... though it doesn't bother me.
Can't comment on the amount of flex with the Evotech... worth hearing from others on that.

  7. Icon mount is a neat solution for sure
I went Evotech as I have a pikes peak with a black tinted screen so you can’t see it. It’s absolutely fine with a Garmin XT, with no wobble, but that’s the 1st gen XT I think the XT2 may be heavier, not sure, hope that helps

  8. I have had both and the Iconic (metal version) is my choice. The Evotech is heavy and visible, it will never break! BUT the iconic fits better and looks way better, I broke two Iconic plastic mounts and have had the metal version on for 3 years with no problems at all. I had a TomTom 550 at first and now have the Carpuride 702 fitted. There is some movement but that is in the fairing mounts so same for both Iconic and Evotech. I don't get any vibration on the Carpuride at all, perhaps because I use rubber washers where the unit mounts to the bracket to soak up any vibrations.

  9. I use the Iconic mount, with metal "off road" brackets. Its a very neat fit but my zumo 595 does move around a bit on rough surfaced. It's been robust so far.

To highjack the thread slightly, what is the attraction with the Carpuride over garmin?

  10. Main reason - choice of navigation apps.
I have never used Garmin but have seen two Garmin users on the same route disagree at a T Junction :) .Most of my mates and myself now use MRA for route planning and navigation so we run MRA from our phones. Also could use TomTom Go, Calimoto, Google maps etc. Plus you can have music and full phone connectivity all via a touch screen on the bike. Disadvantage is that any app on the phone uses quite a bit of battery but there are ways to charge the phone on the bike or use battery packs to boost the phone battery.

  11. Maybe off topic, but a common problem people don't realise they run into with nav issues with satnavs is the method of which the route is loaded. If it's a track, it's a guideline, however if it's a route that loops back on its self or has points close together, I've seen it before where the satnav will try loop to the beginning or previous way point.

As a result, I only ever use tracks now as it gave me numerous headaches for multi day trips as I got tired of having libraries of routes just to get from point a to b.

  12. On the Garmin XT zumo I import the track and the route which I’ve created with MRA, you then have the option to always display the track in a different colour and then open the route on top. This shows any discrepancy and you can add more waypoints as necessary to ensure they match. Once you are riding you can ignore any instructions that take you off away from the track when the GPS is being ‘helpful’.

  13. I was planning to use apple CarPlay through the Aoocci C6 with the MRA App, that should give a reasonable navigation route, I’m booked on a tour of Portugal and Spain in September, I’ll receive the route as a gpx file from the tour leader, I assume I can import that into MRA route planner and then open it in the app, and bobs your uncle :)

  14. Is your tour leader also using MRA? If so ask him to export as a Route, Track and POI GPX 1.1 file. That should replicate exactly what he's intending. If the GPX file is from another planner such as Garmin Basecamp then I'd be asking for a track rather than a route. Although this has many more points MRA can convert this into a route once you've imported it using the edit "route-track button" top right, this only appears when you've loaded a track. I'm assuming here that this is a road based trip.

  15. No he doesn’t use MRA, it will be a GPX from Garmin basecamp.
And yes a road based trip.
I’ll ask him about sending as a track. Alternatively if he sends it as GPX should I open it in Basecamp myself and export as a track ?
I’m not familiar with all stuff, so thanks for the advice :upyeah:

  16. I abandoned Basecamp a long time ago, due to PC change I no longer have it installed. However, I've just tried uploading an old Garmin GPX file from 2018 into MRA, using 'New' > 'Route Upload' and then selecting the 'Route-Track' tab at the top of the pop-up Upload window. This imported the track from that file instead of the route. I also imported the same file as a route, the default upload method, and that was close but with a few deviations.

So long as his Basecamp GPX incorporates a track, which I believe it should by default, then you'll have the same as he intended. In fact, depending on his on-the-road setup with his Garmin GPS, I'll wager that your routing will be more true to plan than his. Garmins tend to deviate somewhat once you're underway, especially if the route is a twisty one or there is a minor diversion and the damn thing recalculates. Nav Next will recalc as well but, in my experience, does it better and also shows the original track at the same time. Garmins can also do this last trick (show the track) but that requires additional PITA set-up on the GPS for each route.
