V4 V4 Scary Moment

  1. I used mine in Urban and Tour and on both settings having to ride at 8,000 rpm burning clutch to stop the revs just going flat to tickover. Crazy. Seems like a fault to me but no doubt Ducati will see otherwise.

  2. What is the tilt switch?

  3. It’s designed to kill the engine if the bike falls on its side. I’m pretty sure our bikes have them, but not sure where they are, usually somewhere under the seat.

Thinking about it, it’s unlikely to be the cause, but worth checking.

One other thing and I’ve had this happen to me, are you sure your boot wasn’t touching the gear lever and momentarily killing the engine?

  4. I have not had this problem but then I have only come down the Devils Staircase on the V4, I did go up on my 1260 which require lots of clutch slipping due to the higher 1st gear. I am wondering if Enduro mode would be a better bet in such situations where there are tight slow speed bends ?

  5. All this makes me glad that my bike doesn't have so many rider 'aids'!

  6. How would my boot touching the gear lever kill the engine?

  7. I would agree, sounds like a fault somewhere.

  8. I don’t have or like quick shifter as I enjoy changing gear. I think touching/lightly pressing the gear lever may cut the engine as it thinks your about to change gear. Not sure as I’m not a fan of all these rider aids, I prefer a motorcycle to have plenty of rider input.

  9. Thanks. Nope my foot nowhere near the shifter

  10. Next time this happens, you can go into settings and turn off the DTC to see if that is the problem.

  11. I was up Scarfell Pike a couple years ago, dropped the bike because of this. Had to rev to around 8000 rpm and ride the clutch on one or two steep hairpin bends. It wanted to drop the power but you just have to like override and keep it up there and using clutch control.

I'm sure if you go on some sort of adventure bike riding/training course this is basic knowledge but I hadn't even thought of it until after the event.

  12. I was cautioned by someone on here before I went into the Pyrenees not long after I bought my V4 Pikes Peak, that using Urban mode would stall the bike through the tight climbs. With that in mind, I kept it in Sport during the climbs and had no problems. Looks like your experience is not unique when the bike is in a steep climb. Might have a discussion with my dealer. 13. Yes this DTC topic is making more sense as to why I've experienced intermittent power surging. I'll try different modes on one of the steep hills near me when I next go out.

  14. Surely the wheelie control is to blame here? Urban has the lowest setting (safest) for wheelie control out of the box.

Common sense would dictate that going up a steep incline would mimic that of a wheelie and thus power is cut but not removed as expected?

  15. So the lesson here is to just leave the bike in Sport or Race, at all times, just to be safe. :D

  16. Sounds like all you lot need to do a group action against Ducati, especially if this sort of use (riding through a hairpin bend) made you have an accident!

Better keep clear of Zigzag hill near Shaftesbury! ;)

  17. I think it's more a RTFM situation.

  18. I was going to ask if there's any warning in the manual. I assume there is!
But does anyone read manuals (especially if only online)?

  19. Or get them to delete the useless Urban zzzzzz mode :eyes:
