Hi everyone, I’m having a weird issue with my 2020 Panigale V2. I got caught in terrible rain one day, and have since had an issue with starting the bike. I know Ducatis are known for not exactly having reliable wiring, but I’m hoping it’s not a huge issue. Basically every time I switch the ignition on, the screen turns on without a problem. I then try to start the bike by holding the button down, but nothing happens. There is no click, no crank, nothing. I noticed it takes between 1 and 3 minutes of holding the button down for the bike to react in any way. Sometimes after 1-3 minutes it will crank and start instantly. Sometimes it will crank once, fail, but crank again within 10 seconds and start. Has anyone had a similar issue? How do I start going about diagnosing it? Thanks in advance
Do I look for corrosion on fuses? Don't think the hair dryer will do as the bike got wet over 2 months ago and the issue persists. How do I go about fixing it? I'll disassemble the cluster over the weekend. If there's corrosion, any product you'd recommend to clear the area?
anything obvious, a blown fuse would be eureka maybe a fuse with some scale on if so clean with a wire brush or sandpaper, or replace is the battery charged fully? if you remove the starter relay and problem is the same maybe thats it. ive had nightmares with electrics before and its a bit daunting, but if you start at the battery and work through it chances are you'll find it
Battery is fully charged and on trickle charger constantly, also had gotten a new battery about 4 months ago. Any idea what kind of power should be on each fuse? Is there a diagram available somewhere? Also wouldn't a blown fuse completely stop the bike from starting?
Yes a blown fuse would break the connection to whatever it goes to but if it has got water in it then that could cause some corrosion and result in a poor connection and possibly intermittent starting like you are describing.
Does anyone have any useful info as to how to access the fuseboxes? Funnily enough I can't find anything online for the V2, only very generic images not showing anything useful.
Is that info not in the Owners Manual? If you don’t have the OM it’s available online at https://www.ducati.com/ww/en/service-maintenance/owner-manuals
Hi mate did you ever manage to sort this issue out I'm going threw the same thing at the moment.bikes not cranking over unless i hold the switch down for minutes or wiggle the clutch lever Thanks mate
Yes mate, I managed to solve the issue - which was idiotic in the first place. I just disassembled the right button cluster, sprayed some WD40 on it and tried to start the bike. The idiotic part is, that if I start while the button is off the handlebar, the bike cranks and starts right away without issues. As soon as I assemble the cluster back and put it back on the handlebar, it chokes again. I think the profiling of the inside wall of the cluster button is weird and when it's put on, the handlebar presses against the inside of the cluster and causes some disconnect, but if i push the button cluster up from the bottom to make it more loose/leave some wiggle room instead of it sitting flush, it starts right away. Hope it helps!
So I'll carry this on for anyone reading in the future,iv stripped the starter switch down and like above says it starts straight away but I found that if I put my finger in the switch it won't start This says to me that there could be an earthing fault ill report back
Aren't most things ' switched earth's' now? I'm assuming that you think your finger is inadvertently earthing the switch ? Could have that completely wrong of course
