I’d still love to know who you insure with. Every major insurance company i have asked have said no to a Race exhaust. I’ve tried all the major ones.
…filed under heading “road legal”… Please don’t berate the messenger who carries bad but truthful news ! I can’t think of anyone who wants a full system more than me, but I’m not willing to take the risk of being uninsured, should the worst happen.
No makings at all , just a part number which would lead you , in court to a closed circuit, not for road use system .A legal pipe has road certification . Like others I tried and tried to insure but in reality could not get a defined answer and not the correct description on the documents . I asked for this to be changed to accommodate the not for road use and they said they could not as not Road legal and my insurance would not cover a non legal bike . Lots do fit them as I did , but sense took over and back to standard . I’m sure that even removing the cat can also have the same implications , but don’t quote me on that as the decat is dam noisy.
Ducati insurance, as I’ve mentioned on here several times. I’ve asked several dealers who insures with the full system, and they’ve all said Ducati insurance. If they are incorrect, and all of those bikes are uninsured, and impossible to insure, Ducati need to take responsibility and pull these from the market.
Just asked Ducati Insurance and they confirmed that they would not insure a motorcycle that was not road legal. They would offer insurance for track used only , but not road . Using the exhaust on the road will null your insurance and you will not be covered. I stated the facts that the system is not road legal and closed circuit use only and is fitted by Ducati with a new map. Best be sure.
Jolly good, now we can move on and put this to bed once and for all then. I'm surprised that nobody has filed action against Ducati or their dealers for knowingly selling products that are illegal to use on the road. The whole track use only is utter bollocks, as the full systems are too loud for most tracks, so also illegal to use on track, so they obviously know the systems WILL be used on the road, and are happy to continue selling them. The waiver is nonsense, as both parties are aware of the legalities, so any decent lawyer would pull one apart, in a court of law. Next question; if you buy a full system online (Akra/ Terminal etc), there's no waiver, and there's nothing printed on the exhaust itself, where do you stand legally? Or if you buy decat headers, also with no waiver or stamp on the system, where do you stand legally? I'm sure you must know, as you seem to have spent a lot of time researching this subject?
There are lots out there that are uninsured without knowing. There are plenty of others who know they are uninsured but carry on anyway. Then there’s a number of people who know they are actually uninsured, but believe somehow that everything will work out well, should the worst happen.
I’m more interested in the riding experience comparison between the bog standard 2024 V4 Pikes Peak and the bog standard 2025 V4 Pikes Peak. Does it feel as heavy ? Is the suspension noticeably different ? What’s the forward collision warning like ? Has the height of the foot pegs changed ? Andy
I can’t remember the last bike I had that I didn’t change the exhaust. So I’ve clearly made my choice. For nothing other than idle curiosity, I wonder if one single member of this forum, or indeed a member that has knowledge of any motorcyclist that has fallen foul of fitting an ‘illegal’ exhaust and subsequently experienced issues with their insurer?
I had an EU homologated (UK legal) Arrow system fitted to my Multistrada 1200. When I declared it, I was advised, in the event of a loss, the underwriter would not pay to replace it. I guess because they'd think you kept the standard exhaust, which I did. Andy
Like you , I have fitted them , but again I know of lads who have crashed and had no issues as they claimed for the bike and it was repaired , but no fatalities , that will be the decider on digging deep and not paying out leaving you high and dry and perhaps financially crippled and also police action for non compliance. As you say , you make your choices but its still a valid post to point out the if and buts. I decided to remove mine as I personally would have way too much to lose.
I’ve got two sons at uni and a wife that enjoys the nice things in life (as do I), if anyone wants to have a go at financially crippling me, they’re welcome to have a go!
They can still take all if they decide to I’m afraid , even with hopefully fortitude , courts are courts.
Multi rider , I have researched and always come up with the same answer . A non road legal bike is not insurable as I have been transparent with all insurance companies I have asked ( including yours) they say no . Simple as that .
Genuine question - if you look through ebay, biketrader etc or dealer pages, most or all at some point will be selling a Panigale, SF, Mulitstrada etc with a full/ part Akra system from the DP catalogue, all will say how much better it is with the exhaust fitted, which they always are, so how are they allowed to sell these seemingly illegal, uninsurable motorbikes? Personally feel life's a bit too short to worry so much about such things, as long as not overly loud to annoy everybody, I'm sure an after market exhaust will never be the contributing factor to a serious/ fatal accident. Sorry for taking a bit more of life up on this!
