Hello There! Tried to fire up the bike after winter and the following happened: - Battery had a starter pack attached - cranked a few times, seemed to run on one cylinder for a few seconds then shut off - while cranking, the lights on the dash got dim, the main relay started fluttering, starter motor stopped What I tried: - checked the main relay and its connectors, all good and clean - before cranking I disconnected the ignition boxes (one after the other between cranks), same behaviour, dim lights etc - disconnected the fuel pump, same behaviour - removed the fuses before cranking: removing the "fuel pump & ignition" fuse made the short circuit disappear. So I need to check the ignition system, seemingly. Has anyone an idea where to start or could even say "check this part first.."? (the workshop manual link somewhere around here leads to a 571 byte pdf file I won't even try to open.)
I've had issues with bad connectors & earthing, Turned out it was at the back of the fuse box, I went through everything first and a pal gave a comment off the cuff. Have you checked behind the fuses ? Eeerrrmmmm I did and BINGO Good luck & stay away from sharp instruments.
Found a Workshop manual and looked for electrical troubleshooting information. The only thing I found was the resistance values for the coils, everything Else was "If $part ist broken, replace it." So now I'll go find my multimetre and check for corrosion etc. and I'll start behind the fusebox.
TL;dr: So it's the battery. Longer version: Checked all the grounding for corrosion, cleaned a few things up but all stayed the same, lights on the panel got dark when pressing the starter. Previously pulled the ignition/ fuel pump fuse and the lights didn't go dim, so I assumed something is wrong with the ignition circuit. Today I put the ignition Fues back in (lights in the dash bright) and turned the light on. Voltage dropped like before to 4 Volts, same relay *pssss* sound. Probably should ride more or charge the battery more often during winter time.
I'd start with putting a fully charged "known good" or new battery on the bike first then start checking connections etc.
