Monster/Monster+ M600-m900 Replacement Tank

Discussion in 'Monster' started by efcbluepete, Apr 9, 2025.

  1. Hello all,

Just wondering if there were such things as aftermarket tanks for the circa 1993-1994 M600-M900 Monsters?

Mine has been in storage and developed some weird bubbling on the tank, so it's a case of refurb or find a replacement.

    Cheers,

    Pete

  2. Never seen any aftermarket, save for custom aluminium ones which are typically £1000 plus.

If you decide to buy a used one, in great condition, be aware that these fitting of these varies between bikes and years. I changed mine to get a custom paint job without losing the use of the bike. I tried three different ones, before I found one that would actually fit my 900ie.

    Goodluck!

  3. Thanks for the wisdom of your experience, while seems a bit of a pain, best to know now than be screaming when I've forked couple of hundred out and the tank doesn't fit.

Mine is a 1994 M900 (as in the profile picture). After leaving it stored for a few years, I have been trying to get it back up and running. Noticing the tank innards were a mess, I tried some "home-brew" de-rusting methods, but it seems the last attempt, using vinegar as a rust eating gentle acid, has actually caused more damage, i.e. blistered through from in to out, so I don't think it is salvageable (but will see what the weekend brings).

    Cheers,

    Pete

  4. Thats a shame whats happened.

Buying tanks from eBay may still be your best bet. Provided the seller lists it as suitable for your bike, or agrees in an eBay message that it will fit, you are entitled to an eBay backed return & full refund policy. Some things about eBay aren't great, but the refund policy is not one of them.

Also there are welders around who can repair these tanks, and as you will likely require a paint job on another one you purchase, the refinishing post weld will be just a part of that. I'm sure there are others here who have contact details for companies, so perhaps try a new thread with that as the title? Obviously, you need to state what area you are in, though a courier could ship for you. I'm not sure but Royal Mail may not allow fuel tanks in their terms & conditions.

    Again, goodluck!

  5. As said there were no mass produced after market tanks

The differences are suble the main one being the hinge and the other is the angle of the seat curve as it meets the tank

For you 93 bike all of the 1st gen metal tanks will fit the problem will be finding one in good condition most suffered form a leak around the hinge which when done properly can be easily fixed but there are plenty of badly bodged ones out there
Heres an example of a shit repair currently on fleebay it could still be fixed but depends how desperate you are these tanks are getting rare so could be waiting a while

  6. California Cycle Works used to sell these for Monsters, guessing it's all over now as the links are dead;

  7. Guy called Alan Knight, Snells mechanic, selling lots of his old kit and has a few tanks. Think he’s on eBay with them

  10. So, going to try to repair this one, as it is still holding it's shape and maybe with a decent sealing, sanding down and a re-spray it will be at least as good as anything on ebay right now. Thanks for the pointers, will update on this thread when I've either made a dog's breakfast of it or got it sorted.

    Cheers,

    Pete

  11. Is it a plastic tank or metal?

  12. Look out for either a RoadRacing or Beater one - both rare but a once in a lifetime purchase as they are both ally
