Cylinder Head Nuts For Carb Inlets

  1. Sorry for such a noddy question, but I want to replace the nuts which secure the inlet pipes from the carbs onto the cylinder heads. They look like fairly standard M6 nuts, non-serrated, with a standard exhaust stud thread pitch? Although with a slightly unusual design, when viewed from underneath..

  2. Flange nuts, spreads the load better than a standard nut so you don't need a washer. Available with or without serrations and with nyloc inserts if you want, available from most bolt suppliers and nothing special that you need to get from Ducati.

  3. If using Nyloc nuts it's sometimes wise to keep an eye on them just in case there is too much heat around about that can cause the nylon to soften.

Although having said that the ones on my bevel seem to hold just fine.

  4. Heat shouldn't be too much on the intake side, that said if you want locking nuts and are worried about the heat, you could use Fuji nuts that lock using a metal insert, the type used to hold Desmoquattro cambelt pulleys.

  5. From memory, my M900 intake manifolds are held on with stainless, nyloc nuts and the nyloc's been fine for many years.

Also, no flanges as there isn't room, a standard nut only just fits and can only be turned with an open-ended spanner due to how tight it is against the manifold but they are Malossi short manifolds rather than Ducati originals which are probably a better fit due to the angles involved?
