yeah in theory they will always work fine especially on a hard flat surface, but try reversing on grass or gravel and it can cause problems, I only used mine on the road and bent my towbar. And a guy I know had a special one made to carry a 1250GS and he badly bent his towbar.
I’ve probably reversed more on campsites and gravel than on tarmac. My towbars are nothing special and were fitted by a mobile company.
In theory it’s great but having my pride and joy strapped to the back of my car/van for every tom dick and arse hole to run into the back of isn’t mu idea of a pleasant journey/holiday.
Surely if you already have a towbar then you just get one of these https://www.mswmotorcycletrailers.com/
I’d only be transporting a 20 year old dirt bike which is only worth about £2.5k, so that wouldn’t be the end of the world. It fact, it could even act as a sacrificial crash structure that might save the rear end of the motorhome in the event of a shunt.
When did you pass your driving test? If prior to 1997, you are entitled to drive vehicles up to 7500kgs Check your licence for category C1
30K is a bit rich for his blood. He’d ideally like a Sprinter that maybe needs finishing off and that would be reflected in the asking price. Thanks all the same.
no worries, i've no idea how much these things are worth. i do know at this time of year anything listed as a "camper" van yer gonna pay top dollar. i looked into having a van converted professionally several years back and was quoted an average of around 10k.
Popped in to my local caravan and camper van stockist for a spare foot pad for my folding camper and noticed the campervans are seriously more expensive than an equivalent size accommodation caravan. Andy
Camper vans are stupid money. It’s a can with some MDF and a bit of foam bolted on. Don’t know how they sell so many. 60k for a T6?!
When I watched the video I thought it looked as if there’s a lot of strain on that area. And that was only with a scooter!
I know people with older motorhomes and towbars that haven’t had issues, it’s the post 2012 type approved bars that seem to have problems, mine was type approved and I hadn’t even reversed mine. It bent sideways, the trailer was serviced and the pivots greased and checked, I only traveled 1 and 1/2 miles round the block.
That’s useful info, thanks. My motorhome is ancient and the metalwork associated with the towing gubbins is thicker walled steel than that, and smaller in section, so hopefully shouldn’t bend so easily.
