V4 Front Brake - Light

  1. Isn’t working…

It lights up fine on the rear and shows lit when I’ve activated hill-hold.

I’ve checked the micro switch under the lever (does it operate the light?) and all seems to be working, but couldn’t say if it’s making/breaking.

Incidentally, it’s not been out since Leeds did the MOT.

    Any thoughts?

  2. Not heard of an issue with the micro switch on the master cylinder but certainly sounds like the prime candidate. The switch body has a split spigot that locates in a hole in the body and can easily (and gently) be levered off with a flat bladed screw driver. You can then operate the switch by hand to see if it works. Andy

  3. The micro switch that sits under the master cylinder is secured with a small philips screw and locates on a peg, so I think we’re on the same thing.

I’ve taken it off and pressing it makes no difference to the light. I’m assuming it a break to make switch, the light comes on when the plunger is out. But nothing.

Does this switch definitely operate the rear light?

  4. Item 7.. operates the brake light. Like you say, when the microswitch pops out the light should come on. It also should have been checked on the MOT.

  5. Looks like I’ll be removing the tank tomorrow to get access to the plug, so I can link it out and establish that it definitely is the micro switch.

    Joy!

  6. What’s an MOT?

  7. This begs a different question and maybe (or not) linked to your issue, it also a question that no one has been able to answer so far, including the technicians at PT.

V4S with Travel and Radar – using the adaptive cruise control (only on a motorway obviously) the bike will apply braking when closing in on a slower vehicle in front and it will use the brakes to slow down (if needed). In such a scenario the brake lights will come ON (I have had this confirmed by a mate behind me). What activated the brake light?

I didn’t touch the front or rear brake lever/ pedal, but the bike braked – as it should – and activated the brake light! My thinking is that there must be a pressure switch in the braking system somewhere that activates the brake light but where is it?

I know modern cars do the same and my Subaru shows when the brake lights are activated on the dashboard. Hence why we see cars with brake lights coming on all the time on a motorway etc.

  8. There's something there because the rear light is coming on when I engage hill-hold, but nothing when I pull the brake normally.

  9. My 765’s brake light is in the abs module I think. Pressure switch.

  10. As its still under warranty; would it not have been easier to let the dealer fix it ?

  11. You make a good point, but I thought I’d have a look myself and before you know it, the things is in pieces and here we are.

  12. You could have just shorted out the two pins using a multimeter on the microswitch, to test if it was boogered.
