Hi to all you out there I'm a new member to this forum and I looking for some help I have just got a 959 and I need to change the tyres and need some guidance to what are the best tyres for the roads on the 959 any help would be great
Tyres are a very personal thing, I have Bridgestones fitted to most of my bikes including my 899 but others don’t like them , lots like the Pirelli that are fitted as standard but I don’t get on with them. I’m sure others will be along with many different options.
had Pirelli corse, fine in the dry, but if you're out in the colder months not great, imagine slicks with a few slashes in went with Michelin road 6, i dont do track days, so road only i think they're great, but im no Hickman
@Zeus, is absolutely correct, to some (especially on this forum ), tyres become a very personal thing. From my perspective, you need to decide what you want from a tyre and work towards a compromise. Absolute grip comes with the penalty of a shorter tyre life. High mileage comes with the penalty of not the absolute grip. Tyre profiles affect your feel, especially in turn in. Dunlop used to have a reputation for being a very ‘quick’ tyre, Metzeler more progressive with a less aggressive profile. If you have the patience (and funds) you could experiment with makes and profiles, both Pirelli and Metzeler have technical books explaining the differences which you can download (for the hardened anorak ). Whilst the major manufacturers don’t make a bad tyre, people have their preferences for reasons that are subjective, not objective. On the 959, you won’t go far wrong sticking with the OEM Pirellis, Continentals have regained a good reputation, I like Metzelers. Sadly none of the “big” manufacturers market a ‘cheap’ tyre so you need to find a good distributor and cosy up to a decent tyre fitter. Although I do not get on the the Pirelli Diablo IV, that might be a good starting point. Hope you find something you like. Andy
Do you have 180/60 or 180/55 on as I can only find Michelin road 6 in a 180/55 if so how much difference did it make to the ride ?
cant remember but i the chap fitting said i was 5mm out either way me, being err me, means i didn't notice, but the michelins had a lot more grip i have to go down a shingle driveway too get to garage and the Pirelli's were like ice (and scary), the michelin dig in and grip
