i need to get mine MOT'd but it has a rather lovely leo vince 57mm corsa full system is this likely to fail mot or could a friendly mot tester overlook it if i rock up with the standard system in the boot of my car?
I thought a noisy exhaust was an advisory? If it has a baffle I would hope that it would definitely pass? My not for road use exhaust on my MV passed at my local MOT station with an advisory. I guess it’s down to the individual tester as to whether he spots the ‘not for highway use’ label. I use the same place for all my bikes and haven’t failed a test yet.
Yeah as mentioned it should fail if it has not for highway use on it or if its ridiculously loud, like them stupid Austin racing cans !! If you fit a baffle it will definitely help your cause.
there is no decibel meter used during an MOT so it's opinion init. like around 90% of an MOT. and what you cant see you cant fail. the only time i ever failed a vehicle for "Excessive" exhaust noise funnily enough was on a policeman's Subaru Impreza. he was cool about it.
spoke to local friendly mot man - bike all booked for next weds and hes become hard of hearing recently and should any markings be obscured then he wont know whats under the duct tape that has strangely attached itself to the silencer
Discretely get rid of the "not for road use" wording if there is any. My 996 didn't even get an advisory for no baffles, but it's not that loud, 102db
I wouldn't use duct tape as it will melt. Mine has a thin strip of HiSpeed tape over the wording, firmly pressed on with a plastic scraper to blend in to the silencer. One can buy Ally tape which would be equally good.
On my Monster's MoT - the last one before it was killed, where it it had Termi silencers (or lookalikes) and passed - that was what the tester said to me. They don't have dB meters as part of their equipment for MoTs
The termis on 916 models have 'race use only' stamped on the top of the band at the front of the can which can't be seen when the cans are fitted to the bike plus, if you polish the cans then it may be erased anyway. I was talking to an MOT tester recently, he said that he would only fail an exhaust that was either faulty, i.e. holes, leaks or hanging off or if it had 'race use only' or similar that was visible.
