I need to fit new fork seals and I'd be interested to know of there is any difference in quality between brands. The forks were rebuilt by Brook Suspension about 4 years ago and they say they fit OEM seals made by NOK but four years and around 5,000 miles doesn't seem good to me. My bike has Showa non adjustables not the original Marzzochi forks. Who makes the best seals?
I’ve always used Pyramid Parts fork seals in all my bikes and not had any problems, did you change the bushes last time as well? They might be worn and allowing play around the seal or you could try cleaning up inside the seal if it’s only a slight weep, worth a try before you strip them down.
I didn't rebuild them myself last time. I sent them to Brook and said 'do what ever needs doing' which included rechroming them. If the bushes needed replacing I think they would have done it.
I doubt there is any difference at all between the recognised providers except in price and possibly availability and or shipping.
If available for the bike I am working on I always use SKF duel compound low friction seals. You pay a bit more for them but a fork job is mainly labour only. I’ve also had good results with pvc seal savers, if you take care and follow the directions. A very thin plastic milk bottle is good material to cut one from if you want to make your own. Try to pattern them on the motion pro ones!
The best fork seals are Ariete, you can’t go wrong with them…Pyramid parts fork seals I have had fail after a very short time.. now the Pyramid parts brake pads I’d recommend, they are really good especially in the 900ss rear brake and for 10 quid… Change of subject but worth a mention…
I’ve used Ariete over the years before SKF hit the market, an excellent seal. I’ve also not been particular impressed with Pyramid parts. I just speak as I find.
