I have recently purchased a rear paddock stand, it turned up today. Got the bike out to check it. Noticed on the paddock stand had a larger diameter than the bikes. Then i noticed a allen grub screw in it, took the piece off. I placed the stand on to the bike, i noticed that its only the last 2 inches or so that are only the exact circumference of wheel. Being new to paddock stands is this the norm?
Mine is like yours, bought it specifically to fit an 848 although they did have different options for different bikes interns of spindle size.
The paddock stand bar should be the same size as the spindle on the bike. There are lost of different sizes. If it is only touching the last couple of inches then beware as it will be supporting the spindle off kilter which in turn can wreck the bearing in the aluminium sub frame which will be costly to repair, also the bike can quite easily fall of the stand.
Mine fits snuggly in the spindle, I thought it might have been smaller to allow you to get the thing in easier. I can't see how you could end up wreaking a bearing that has way more pressure put on it from different angles when it's a corner. Not too mention taking the weight when it's on the side stand.
FingersG, where did you get yours from? Could try and find a spindle to fit an 848. Been in touch with seller, he had an SF1098
the SF1098 has a larger diameter spindle than the 848, you need the correct size spindle for the paddock stand
Desmo Dave (on here) at Snells can help you. He has the correct 848 spindles in stock. Drop him a pm
Correct, looks to me like the seller simply had a sleeve over the smaller pin to fit the 1098 larger hub. Sleeve off and your back to small hub (pin) stand, which is correct for your 848.
There's another section on the stand that you place this "handle" into. It allows you to lock your wheel when loosening / tightening the rear wheel nut. You can see it in the picture, the "handle" fits in horizontally. I managed to bend mine while loosening the nut though. Some stands have this, some don't
